Great Choice
La Quinta's have come a long way! We stayed here for 6 nights at the beginning of our recent road trip and 3 nights at the end. This was an excellent choice as far as location and price. The hotel is located within 15-20 minutes of the airport, downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul. It's also located about 5 minutes from the Mall of America.
The first time we stayed we had a king room - with microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, and free wifi. The second time we had 2 double beds in the room, coffee maker, and free wifi (no microwave or refrigerator). There were 18 floors in this hotel and both times it was full. Guests were a mix of business travelers, families, and retirees.
I booked the king room online (hotel website) a couple of months in advance for an amazing $60 a night, which included breakfast. I booked the double room same day as arrival for $77 (AAA discount both times).
Additional amenities: free use of computers and printers in the business center, decent pool, free airport transfers, free Mall of America transfers, plenty of free parking, guest laundry.
Breakfast included cereals, fruits, breads, waffles, etc. - enough to get you started. A couple of restaurants within walking distance, plenty within 5 minute drive.
Entire hotel is non-smoking. Area outside for smokers.
I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

Decent stay
The hotel was very busy (mostly full), but our room was for the most part quiet, though there was some machinery that seemed to go on and off during the middle of the night, and the refrigerator was quite loud. It was evident that the rooms were recently refurbished as they were in good shape. The beds were comfortable though they seemed smaller than normal for some reason. Breakfast was slightly disappointing--the waffles were good but otherwise there was just some fruit and dried up pastries and muffins. Considering the discounted rate we got through hotwire, we were satisfied with our stay.
