Holiday Inn Express Convention Center Downtown, Minneapolis, MN - Reviews and Hotel Information

My business trip to Minneapolis found me staying at the HI Express Hotel and Suites. I've always somewhat objected to staying at a HI Express, but this one certainly changed my thinking.

The check-in staff were very friendly (by Minneapolis standards), and the rooms clean and spacious. There was really no business centre of which to speak, however the reception staff did an admirable job of taking messages and sending faxes as was required.

There is no restaurant on site, however there is a dining room which serves a hearty continental style breakfast (you must try to the cinnamon rolls). Snacks and such are available from the hotel store. Alternatively you could walk about 1/2 a mile to the nearby convenience store.

The location is very good for leisure travellers. Very close to the airport and the Mall of America (a major tourist attraction/trap). For business travellers it is a little inconvenient having to travel into the CBD, although it is only a $25 taxi ride.

This HI Express has changed my thinking from no frills = no good, to thinking more basic accomodation can have as good if not better service and facilities than their more expensive bretheren.
