Great Minneapolis hotel

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 3, 2014

From the moment we pulled up to this hotel, I knew that I had made the right decision. The valet and bellman (Joseph) quickly greeted us by name and directed us to the check-in desk where we were introduced to the desk clerk and the hotel manager (Andrew). It was a very inviting experience and environment! The lobby was large, bright and cheery with plenty of cozy couches and chairs scattered throughout. There was fresh lemon water sitting out for guests to enjoy.

Joseph guided us to our room along elevators that can only be activated with a key card- a nice safety feature of this hotel. When we arrived on our floor (7th floor) I was immediately impressed by the wide hallways with tall ceilings; a feature that you don't find in many of the downtown hotels. The rooms , both the Grand Suite and a Queen, were exceptional and spacious. There were high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. It was both luxurious and cozy. No detail was spared and no amenity forgotten! These rooms had it all! And, even though the hotel was fully booked and in the midst of downtown, the rooms were extremely quiet- I could not hear any of the outside noise even when I put my ear to the thick glass window!

Another nice surprise was the large and spacious bathrooms with walk-in showers and a separate spa tub! Many of the recently renovated or newer hotels don't even contain tubs (which is very disappointing) so it was a thrill to find one in this renovated room. Unfortunately however, the water pressure in the hotel was so low that it took nearly 30 minutes to fill up the tub. But, that's just a minor issue in the otherwise impeccable hotel!

Hands down, this is an exceptional hotel! We will definitely stay here again!! In fact, I might plan a trip to Minneapolis JUST so I can stay at this lovely boutique hotel!

A special thank you to Andrew (the GM) for helping to make this experience so exceptional!

Unique Quality: The spa was fabulous! We had facials, manicures (Olivia was awesome) and massages. Each of these were some of the best that we have experienced. The gym was also a nice surprise. It was much larger than you would expect in a boutique hotel and contained a great selection of weights and cardio machines (most of which had TVs). Room service was efficient and quick, arriving within 30 minutes of placing our order. The food was warm, unique, and good, but not overly impressive (with the exception of the 5 layer chocolate cake- delicious!).

Top notch

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

I stayed at the Ivy when it was under a years old; so the hotel condition was great.

Room - very good
Spacious room (approx 380sqft) with wide screen plasma TV, separate bath and shower, comfortable sofa and a spacious desk/work area. King size bed was very comfortable; all rooms are non-smoking.

Location - superb
It is located on 11th st and 2nd avenue; just two blocks East of the Nicolett Mall - the main shopping/business road in downtown Minneapolis

Price - good
At $179/night it is a bargain for the quality that you get

Service - average
Even though the staff was very friendly, I had knock a couple of 'points' for a very limited in-room dining menu and not providing a coffee machine- these days for such a luxurious hotel I expect an espresso machine really...

Overall - very good
If I ever need to travel to Minneapolis again I will stay here
