The stay was great. My room was the Butternut suite which is the only first floor guest room. It's also the largest, the most expensive and the only one with a double whirlpool tub. If lace and doilies are your thing--fear not, they've got 'em. If that scares you a little, don't shy away. The hostess was really nice but really hands off. They take care of you but don't hover. You have freedom in the house and it is an impressive house. Cool furniture and amazing woodwork everywhere.

Unique Quality: Red Wing is different from cities that aren't on the river (the Mississippi.) It's older and has a sort of tourist district. I recommend hiking up to Barn Bluff after soaking the night away in the tub.

I've also heard Red Wing is a good place to go antiquing--that's not my thing but there you go. Also Red Wing pottery and Red Wing shoes are made there.
