Covington Inn B&B: Bunk on a Boat

I haven't stayed here and am not a fan of B&Bs but this is unusual so thought I'd throw it in. The Covington Inn is a renovated, 1946 towboat that has found a permanent berth on the Mississippi in downtown St. Paul. It has 4 cozy, mahogany and brass-accented staterooms that vary in size (one is 2-story) and price, and all have fireplaces, private bath and access to outside decks. There is also a shared salon/library. Anchored next to the River Boat Grille (see my restaurant tip) and Minnesota Centennial Showboat Dinner Theater this would be a convenient pick for a special-occasion getaway as you wouldn't have to walk far to take in a show or just have a casual meal at the Grille. It's also a nice walk across the Wabasha Bridge to restaurants, museums and special events in downtown St. Paul.

Rooms here aren't cheap ($140 - $235 a night depending on season and room size), they don't have TVs, might be considered a tad bit on the too-cozy size for some folks and I probably wouldn't book it in the winter but it's a unique way to spend an anniversary, birthday or other special event during the warmer months when you can enjoy the outside decks.

Great view of downtown St. Paul. Proximity (in summer) to theater and restaurant. Proximity to downtown St. Paul. Unique accommodations.

Sheraton Midway: Good Location

This hotel is located sort of in the middle of Downtown St. Paul and Minneapolis. It is also near the I-94 which is the main highway that connect the Twin Cities.

It runs shuttles to the airport and the Mall of America.
