Stillwater is a beautiful small town on the St. Croix River, about 25 miles east of St. Paul, right across from Wisconsin. It's an ideal place to stay for a few days if you wish to enjoy the proximity of the Twin Cities while avoiding Big City hassles. Alternatively, many Twin Citizens use Stillwater as a convenient "getaway" when they need a little R & R. It has a charming town center, vibrant shops and restaurants, and a specialization in used books. There are also local celebrities who live here: the beautiful Jessica Lange and her playwright husband Sam Shepard, who live right up on the hill.
