Looking for a Good Seafood Restaurant and Beach access
by travelingcountrymice
We will be in Biloxi the Monday after Memorial day. We are looking for a really good seafood restaurant. We would like to stay away from chain-type restaurants and the casinos and really have some less 'touristy' place to go. Driving a short distance wouldn't be a problem. Also, we will be staying on the boulevard, but not at a beach front hotel and would like to know about public access to the beaches in Biloxi. Any information would be great!!

Landry's Seafood
2694 Beach Boulevard
Biloxi, MS 39531
Tel: (228) 385-2220
It's a chain - they started in Louisiana. You're not going to get any better seafood elsewhere, so don't worry about it being a chain.
If you don't mind driving, I would suggest that you try:
VERA'S RESTAURANT
337 LAKEVIEW DR
SLIDELL, LA
(985) 643-9291
Vera's is about 70 miles from Biloxi, mostly I-10. It would be worth the hour's drive - Vera's is literally on the lake on stilts. Hard to get to, and mostly only locals go there. They've been in business for decades. If you're considering it, let me know, and I'll send directions.
As for beach access - virtually all the Mississippi Gulf Coast is public access - it is about 30 miles of manmade beach and there are very few buildings on the beach side of the highway - there is parking along the highway. Unfortunately, the water is not the best. If you'd like blue water and great swimming, consider a boat trip to Ship Island, a barrier island about 10 miles or so off the coast - the gulf side has crystal clear blue waters. have fun!

Travel Tips for Biloxi
Eight Flags over Biloxi
by Ewingjr98
When approaching Biloxi from the west, you drive by an area with 8 flags flying in the breeze. Trying to outdo Six Flags over Texas? Nah...these flags represent the 8 governments that have ruled this area since Europeans first arrived. These are: French, English, Spanish, West Florida Republic, Mississippi Territory, the Confederate States of America, Mississippi State and the United States.
Though the down has been struck by numerous large and small hurricanes many historical vestiges remain.
The Seagulls are getting ready for their free meal
by Waalewiener
The net is almost hoisted out of the water, and off course it is no surprise to see the Seagulls getting ready for a free meal.
this really is a fantastic experience ,and nature at its best. If you ever get the chance take this trip it is well worth it.
Climate
by keeweechic
The Mississippi Gulf Coast has a mild climate with an average temperature around 68°. Even during the coldest month the temperatures averages about 52° with 82° in the hottest month.
This car was down near the beach. Certainly one of a kind!!
OCEAN SPRINGS---PELICANS
by LoriPori
Another one of our favourite little places in the Biloxi area is OCEAN SPRINGS. It is a 20 minute drive east of Biloxi. Drive along Beach Blvd., go over the bridge and you will come to the charming little town of Ocean Springs. There are many quaint shops and of course the harbour area which we always must visit. Here, there are always plentiful of pelicans which are attracted here because it's a peaceful and protected area.
Keesler AFB
by Ewingjr98
The largest single employer in Biloxi, Keesler AFB is part of the AF's Air Education and Training Command and its primary mission is to train the Air Force's communications and information professionals. Opened in 1941, Keesler has long been known as the "Electronics Center of the Air Force." The 81st Training Wing calls this base home, and Keesler also hosts the "Hurricane Hunter" C-130s that study and track hurricanes.

Q: cheapest way from airport to Treasure Isle Casino? do they have shuttle? "unable to find info on transportation from airport other than taxi...does anyone know if the hotel offers shuttle, or if the city..."
A: "Do you mean, the "Treasure Bay Casino"?
