Visiting Greenwood is...
Visiting Greenwood is distinctly different from most other places,,It is almost like stepping back in US history to see plantations, old buildings, and a community that is unique in their common purpose which is the production of cotton. It is not unusual to see low flying bi planes spraying crops,,when the cotton is in bloom it is like a gigantic blinding white cloud has descended on the fields (which are huge many that are several hundreds of acres and more) Going to a restaurant called 'Lusco's' which is reportedly an old speak easy from the prohibition days..The resaurant is broken into small cubicle size rooms with curtains and a buzzer for the waiter. When I visited the restaurant, the waiter that greeted me was quite old and very polite and nice and he asked if I cared for a drink..I thanked him and ordered the usual 'Bourbon and water'...a very long time passed and the waiter returned with a bottle of bourbon, glass, and pitcher of water with ice. I thanked him and asked if it was any trouble since he had been absent for so long..he replied that it was not a problem..he just had to go down the street to the liguor store and buy a bottle of bourbon for me. The meal was exceptional and a real speciality was grilled pompanos which are a florida, split tailed fish that are exceptionally rare to find in a restaurant. They were an unusal treat in a small town. The steaks at Lusco's are equally exceptional and of the finest beef..Note: the restaurant is not much to look at, but the food really is in reverse proportion 100 fold to the buildings appearance.
