Highway 90 Into Gulfportgulfport mississippi

the city of gulfport is located on US 90 about 12 miles west of biloxi. prior to hurricane katrina in 2005 gulfport was a busy gulf coast port town and was home to several casinos. the downtown area of gulfport was severely damaged by hurricane katrina and today much of the downtown has still not recovered. the day i visted gulfport i did not see any activitity at the port and most of downtown was closed. on US 90 there are two new casinos and a couple of new restaurants. the beach between gulfport and biloxi has been restored. there is a lot more to do in nearby biloxi but for tourists on a budget the hotels and motels in gulfport are less expensive. gulfport is still an interesting place to visit when in south mississippi.
