I drove on I55 just north of the I55/I220 split and saw a replica of the Washington Monument. I thought it was going to be something significant, but it appears to just be something that was built for the sake of being built.
It's on private property, with no signs or descriptive words, but it's impressive nonetheless. From what I've been told by a local contractor, it's nothing more than a cellphone tower. Oh well, it's still sort of interesting to see.
This church has interesting architecture and historical background. The congregation boasts worship dating back to 1839, but the current church building was completed in 1917. Across the street is the 1889 mansion where Bishop Galloway, for whom the church was named, had lived for many years.
