King Edward Hotel
by atufft
The historic King Edward is located on a famous spot, and twice before buildings have been there having "Edward" in the name. Major RO Edwards was the owner of the original confederate hotel. The current 12 story Beaux-Arts style structure, built in 1923, has been vacant for some 40 years, but for the 40 years before that it served as the center of Jackson society and politics. Also, a room at the hotel was used by Okeh Records to record a number of important blues sessions in December 1930. The current restoration plans are financed by New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister in conjunction with Historic Restoration Inc. of New Orleans. The plans are to restore the former glory of the hotel while preserving space for restaurants, bars, and luxury condos.
