Residential Housing Along State Street: Part 2
by atufft
These homes are often converted into Law Offices, and some of them have signs to allow the public some understanding of the homes original owner. The details of workmanship around windows, doors, and roof edging are often quite extraordinary.
Original First Baptist Church
by atufft
Now a dull grey stucco building with ordinary doors and columns, and part of the Galloway United Methodist Church facitilites, this builiding is the oldest house of worship in town. Constructed of slave made brick in 1843, the church serviced a Baptist congregation until 1893. At one time, it was converted into an apartment house, and later corporate headquarters for the Consolidated American Life Insurance Company, but now it serves as a day care facility for the Methodist Church. The front steps have ornated iron railings. I tried to find evidence of brick under the stucco, but was unsuccessful.
