by Helga67

If you like to watch or even visit the beautiful antebellum houses of the Old South than Natchez is the place to go, because this city has more antebellum houses than any other place in the United States. Some houses are available for touring daily, but many more open their doors during Spring and Autumn Pilgrimage.

by RACCOON1

In Mississippi you may notice cars with bumper stickers saying :

" Eat More Possum ".
which is interesting .

Also. You may notice that "Grits " are on menus in restaurants . If they are , order "Grits ". If you want to learn more about grits just Google " Quaker Grits" and they will explain everything .

Frogmore Plantation

by Toughluck

An operating Cotton Plantation, which has preserved it's original 'cotton gin', and slave quarters. Here, you can learn about the historic cotton growing and see how it has changed to the modern industry it is. You'll even have a chance to pick some cotton.

Historic Plaza

by Stephen-KarenConn

The Natchez Indians used this Historic Plaza, between the Great Sun's Mound and the Temple Mound, for festivities which included religious ceremonies.

The funeral for the brother of the Great Sun, the Tattooed Serpent, was held here in 1725, and was witnessed by Le Page du Pratz, who lived in Natchez at the time. He gives a detailed description of the event in his book, Historie de la Louisiane, which was published in 1758. It is well documented that human sacrifices were made at the funerals of deceased chiefs. Those thus sacrificed were to serve the chief in the after life.

The Rosalie

by keeweechic

A wonderful Federal style mansion which is encircled by an antique cypress picket fence. The grounds adjoins the Bicentennial Garden which is a four acre park overlooking the Mississippi. The mansion is just above the Under The Hill area also. The site was chosen by the French for the first settlement on the river in 1716 and named Fort Rosalie in honour of the Duchess de Pontchartrain. The Rosalie Mansion was built in 1820-23 as a dream home of Peter and Eliza Little. The house still has original furnishings and is listed on the National Historic Trust. Tours are available daily.
