philadelphia is located in east central mississippi at the intersection of SR 16 and SR 19. philadelphia was incorporated in 1905. philadelphia is the county seat of neshoba mississippi. today the main attraction of philadelphia is the pearl river gambling complex. for students of civil rights history philadelphia is the site of the 1964 murders of james channey, andrew goodman, and michael schwerner. these murders brought national attention to this small mississippi town and was the inspiration for the 1988 film "mississippi burning".
