Is Branson a Tourist Trap or a Vacation Center?
If Branson is a trap then the bait originally was Table Rock Lake. It arose as a water impoundment in 1959 and has over 400 miles of winding shoreline south of and paralleling Branson. Originally there were only campgrounds and some homes around the lake, plus the small town. It always continues to grow rapidly: entertainment venues, condominiums, timeshares and just plain hotels and motels try to keep up, and admission fees also keep growing. (There is still lots of land). Most visitors forget the lakes. Being centered between several large cities, whose citizens have few other vacations within reach, expands its popularity. Almost everybody arrives by car and stays several days, so traffic at popular hours increases the feeling of being trapped. If you do not have access to a boat there are some beaches and if all else fails take a ride on the Branson Belle (a Showboat with a fee). The large beautiful lake which has few admission fees.
