Battle of Carthage State Historic Site
by basstbn
On this site in 1861, six thousand rebel troops forced Union soldiers to retreat. Honestly speaking, there is not much reason to check out this spot unless you are an avid Civil War buff. There's not much to see, and the descriptive signs are in poor repair.

"Most photographed Carthage landmark"
Located in the Ozark Mountain region of Missouri where fertile prairies to the north meet timbered Ozark uplands to the south, Carthage has experienced more than 160 years of history.
This is where the Battle of Carthage during the Civil War took place. And this is where we stopped for meals during our journey to Eureka Springs, Arkansas and on the way back to Kansas City.
Picture below is the courthouse located in the middle of Carthage town square.
"Carthage town square"
The square is where the action take place in Carthage as most shops and restaurants are located here.
I've turned this photo into B&W to see if it can capture a bit of its old town charm. What do you think???

i don't remember when exactly i was in carthage. on one of our annual pilgramages to branson we stopped the night in carthage to go to the precious moments chapel. it's cool. it's very well done, but i would say that if you don't like the precious moments figures then don't go. you'll hate the place. i myself am fairly neutral about them, so i manged to enjoy myself without going into orgasms of delight.
