Travel Tips for Clarksville
Historic Mississippi River Town
"Drive up to the River"
Clarksville has become sort of a tourist stop, just recently. The historic commercial buildings right along the River have been renovated very nicely. They are easy to find as you drive through town on scenic 79. Stop in the parking lot. The public restrooms are handy! Believe me, as I couldn't find one for many miles, until I pulled into this narrow park! Boats go by, birds fly over the water, stop for a picnic or to breathe in the watery air.
This sign is an homage to the historic commercial area, I think. It is right beside that area. You can see a big river boat & a pavilion behind it. I enjoyed my stop here...
Eagles, barges, festivals
"Higher than an Eagle"
Clarksville is an interesting if not fun place if you catch it at the right time of the year. Nice downtown architecture, lock and dam can be fascinating, this city is always really affected by flooding. Public celebrations and farmer's markets on weekends around and in the Apple Shed. There are some pretty views and some nice terrain to the north on 79 and to the west toward Hwy 61.
Lock and Dam
In late January usually, Clarksville hosts Eagle days were there is a program and Eagle watching.
Folks putting in at the boat ramp and making their way across the river to Foley for breakfast or upstream in search of a popular sand bar.
