If you are coming to Independence to check out the historic sites downtown, early Mormon sites or the Truman Home or Museum then the Olive Branch Inn cannot beat for its location. It is literally across the street from the Truman House; three short blocks from the Mormon Temple Lot sites and five from the Jackson County Courthouse in the heart of downtown. From the outside, the building demonstrates its initial purpose as an office building for the RLDS/Community of Christ church. The church then converted the building to an inn, a function it still serves though it is privately owned now.
There are few places to stay near downtown Independence most hotels are located closer to I-70 several miles to the south. Rooms are large and rates are very reasonable. Continental breakfasts are served downstairs and the staff is quite helpful.
