The Rockhill Neighborhood
by yooperprof
It's a common misconception in Kansas City that the Rockhill Neighborhood is so named because it's located on a prominent hill which had a lot of rocks on it. Au contraire, my dear friend. "Rockhill" was the middle name of William Rockhill Nelson, owner-editor of the Kansas City Star at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century and developer of this part of the city. In turn, "Rockhill" was the birth name of Nelson's mother, and like many other men of his time, he felt he owed "it all" to her.
A notable feature of the Rockhill neighborhood is the widespread use of limestone in domestic architecture. Actually, limestone is widely used throughout the city, though perhaps nowhere more than here. There were limestone quarries throughout the city, including one of Gillham Boulevard, not half a mile from this classic early 20th century house.
Kemper Arena
by basstbn
Kansas City has traditionally been a strong college basketball town, having hosted more NCAA national championship basketball games than any other city. There are four major universities in the area fielding basketball teams, including my alma mater, the University of Kansas, a perennial national power in the sport. None of these teams make their home at Kemper, but the arena is the scene of many tournaments and special matches such as that pictured between Kansas U. and the University of Oregon.
Kemper Arena is due to be replaced in 2007 by a state of the art new venue located in the heart of downtown KC. Other sports at Kemper include indoor soccer, minor league hockey, and rodeo.

This is one of the statues in front of the American Royal. American Royal is a big building and arena where they have horse shows and rodeos. There is a museum that opens at 10:00 Tuesday through Saturdays which has many interactive displays. I learned some things there. Getting there is a bit difficult if you have not done so before. You take the exit off of I-35 near Bartle Hall, circle around under the highway, go through a nice neighborhood with hispanic murals on the walls, and up a bridge. At top of the bridge you will see the American Royal Building below and an exit ramp.
Real Italian Bliss
by HJ_ about Cupini's Fresh Pasta and Panini
This is a amazing little Italian restaurant that I recently discovered and I'm not the only one cause they are expanding cause buisness is doing so good. The food tastle like it came directly from Italy. The chef is an actual native from Rome. It's not real fancy, you stand in line to order and the will bring you your food. the prices are great esp for the quality of the food. They serve fresh pasta daily and you can watch them make it through the window in the morning. Oh and the staff is very friendly and fun and well the men are hot..
