The local newspaper and their corporate owner (Knight-Ridder) deserve commendation for building their new production facility at the edge of the downtown freeway loop (from 15th to 17th streets, McGee to Oak). The bold structure will allow passers-by literally to watch the paper roll "hot" off the presses. It's impressive what they can do with glass these days.
Watch for historical markers on the roads in Kansas City. Also look for signs that tell you when you are on the Frontier Military Route, Santa Fe Trail, or Oregon Trail. This historical marker is on highway 24 on the way to Fort Osage.
This brewery is in Westport. Westport is another of the unique areas in Kansas City that has it's own style. I got some great food there and did some people watching. Haven't tried MILLCREEK out yet. I am waiting to do that if richiecdisc ever visits Kansas.
Just out side the Hallmark visitors center is this structure. It is an ice skating place in the Winter. I saw skaters there last January but did not have my camera. I can't skate but I enjoyed watching them.
Drive. If you're visiting, rent a car. One interesting thing you'll notice is that Kansas City is actually two cities: Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas. When you're driving, the only way to tell what state you're in is by the color of the street signs, either green or white (I can't remember which state has what color sign, but I think Missouri is green?).
