What are your thoughts

by HighStress

Do you ever see Kansas City as being a place where people want to come, or do you think we are already there?
What would be your top 3 things you would tell someone new to Kansas City to go do?
Where would be the top 3 places you would tell them to go eat at?
Just curious to make sure I am not missing anything in this city, while I am here.

Three things to do in Kansas City: Saturday morning shopping at the City Market downtown, jazz at 18th & Vine, a visit to the Truman Home and Presidential Library in Independence. Places to eat: Le Fou Frog downtown, Oklahoma Joe's BBQ in Kansas City KS, and Cafe Sebastian in the Kemper Art Museum.

Sculpture - "Pendergast memorial" child

by yooperprof

"Boss" James Pendergast apparently had a number of redeeming qualities. He was said to be very fond of immigrants and children. This "child" is part of the sculptural grouping of the Pendergast memorial. There's no explanation, but it could be a depiction of an orphan child - Pendergast is reported to have donated some of his ill-gotten gains to orphanages throughout the Kansas City area.

There is no quick way to get to Powell Gardens from KC. Powell Gardens is southeast of KC by approximately 30 miles. You can either take I-70 E, go south on Hwy Z and go and east on Hwy 50 or you can take I 435 E to 470 E go through Lee's Summit and get onto Hwy 50 E and take that all the way to Powell Gardens.

My first experience with Powell Gardens was with a date with a photographer and a bride. Yep, I was in the wedding party and was there for wedding pictures. I understood why so many brides liked the setting of Powell Gardens and the outdoor chapel, the grounds were well manicured and peaceful.

It's also a great place to throw a blanket down and have a small picnic or even have a meal at the restaurant there.

The island garden central to the lake and grounds was picturesque and a definite must see. In addition to acres and acres of walking access, Powell Gardens offers educational classes for all ages and experiences. Some evenings offer concerts and fireworks, and sculptures dot the landscape for temporary public viewing. Last year, they had lifelike sculptures of prehistoric dinosaurs.

The gardens are fairly large and open and they do offer complementary trolley service within the grounds.

A place to get used to on a slower pace. It is a smaller town, but growing due to suburban sprawl. It is 30 miles form downtown, but people enjoy the living outside the close in, so commute is slow and lengthy, but home quiet, when you get there. Jesse James has his fame, and came from here. That takes up a lot of the tourists sites to see here. He was a known rebel, but what is not known is he also was revered by many due to his stance against the North during reconstruction period. He tried to get into politics, but was rebuffed, and Crittendon put a bounty out on James once he started robbing/killing. He died with his boots on, but no weapon to defend himself.

The 'nightlife' spot in KC is Westport. The jumping off point for the settlers in the Wild West.

You can find everything here from high energy dance clubs, to country bars, to local hangouts, to some of the best blues/jazz music in the country.
it's the place to go in KC. Depending on the bar you can get away with anything.
