Things to do with a 18 year old sports fanatic

by rnj1

I am bringing my 18 year old to STL for a Cardinals game July 17-18. What other things are there to do in STL with an 18 year old. No alcohol or gambling.

The Gateway Arch is pretty interesting, though if your 18 year-old is tall he might find that the ride to the top of the arch (in a pod-like car) is pretty uncomfortable. Not for claustrophobics!

St. Louis has a good zoo and an interesting science center. Both are located in Forest Park, site of the 1904 World's Fair. It's on the western edge of the city of St. Louis, about five miles from downtown.

Union Station has been nicely renovated, and has a lot of those touristy shopping experiences that so many people seem to enjoy these days.

Travel Tips for Saint Louis

The Gateway Arch is a memorial...

by Davidp1952

The Gateway Arch is a memorial to Thomas Jefferson and to the historic role St. Louis played as the Gateway to the West. The idea of a memorial was first proposed in 1933. Designed by famed Finnish-American architect, Eero Saarinen, construction of the stainless steel Arch was completed in 1965. Soaring 630 feet above the Mississippi River, the Gateway Arch is America's tallest man-made monument and is the focus of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The Memorial, a 97-acre national park on the St. Louis riverfront, includes both the Arch and the historic Old Courthouse.

Perfect day in St. Louis:

A beautiful Saturday on a blanket in Forest Park with a gorgeous girl laying next to me, marveling the beauty of the Gateway City. Soulard Mardi Gras-- when a drunk guy dressed up in drag took a p*ss on the windshield of my car (I was backing out of a parking space).

St. Louisans? Friendly?

by RonaaRoo

The locals of St. Louis can be friendly, but don't expect us to be as friendly as in the south. Many people will be pleasant, but they won't really stop and talk to strangers. I'd say we are more friendly than some people in, say, the northeast, but we aren't as outgoing as people in the south.

Busch Stadium: Built on the Footprint of the Past

by TravellerMel

The new Busch Stadium was built on the footprint of the former stadium. It was interesting to find these plaques denoting the original location of the right field foul line and outfield wall of the old stadium.

Great Wine in the Middle of Nowhere

by BigBlueOne

Hidden Lake Winery is in Aviston, Illinois (about 30 minutes from the Arch) and is a great little winery situated on its own private lake. As far as local winerys are concerned this place has better wine than any of the others I've been to. Couple that with a steak house (only on weekends) and little cabins you can rent (if you've had too much wine) and this place is definitely worth a visit.
