So co-workers told me about the improved gym, so I'm staying at The Westport Double Tree this week. The gym is remolded, but like the gym at the Frontenac Hilton, it clearly was not designed by someone who actually goes to the gym. The nice Precor equipment (like at my gym at home) is not well grounded, and wiggles just a bit. Plus, there are 2 elliptical machines, and 3 treadmills. Have these people been to a gym? The ellipticals are the first machines to be filled up.
Anyway - the room is nice, but the cable is weak. No comedey central. I love my John Stewart, and its a treat to watch him at 10:00 (vs. 11:00 at home in the Pacific time zone).
The bathroom is really nice, but the shower temp is touchy. And the tub is not very solid. Weird for a recently remodeled hotel.
I will likely stay here again, because the hotel with the cable I like (Hampton Inn at Forest Park) does not have a decent gym. Plus, I like having room service. And they have a reasonable rate.
Unique Quality: The lounge is in the lobby, so no smoking, which is a HUGE benefit in the state of MO where they have not yet passed the No Smoking in Public Places law.
Directions: Near Westport Plaza. Not actually in it - you have to drive or take the shuttle over to Westport.
