Beers?

by ajhall6779

I know...I know...it's Bud territory.

I don't want anything to do with it though. I'm a VT from Bucktown/Wicker Park Chicago comming on vacation in a couple of week to visit my girlfriend. Can anyone offer a place that knows it's brew? Conversely, I don't want its "brew" to be a Bud/Macro product. I'm used to hanging at Map Room or HopLeaf in Chicago. So, where does the descerning brew fan go in St Louis...and if you know that, do they have good food or is it available nearby?

Thanks so much guys...

the gateway arch is the tallest monument of the USA(192m);you can climb up to the top ,but not by foot, you have to pay a ticket;also very beautiful:the museum of the far west conquest under the arch, and the old court, just in face of the arch,on the opposite street I met very nice people at the youth hostel;it is strange to talk with people you should never have met if travelling one week earlier or later;there was a man from a little village of nebraska who was at the hostel 15 days to see his brother in saint-louis;another guy came from chicago only to see the van gogh exhibit;there was also a japanese guy who was trying to find a job as a biologist

Downtown - Civil Courts (1930)

by yooperprof

The Civil Courts Building (sometimes called the St. Louis Pyramid!) is one of the most distinctive structures in this or any other American city, IMHO. The top of the building has certainly a dramatic presence that few can rival. It was modeled closely after the famous Mausoleum of Maussollos, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient World. Featured are 32 Ionic Columns, 8 per side; each column is 42 feet high and more than 5 feet in circumfrence. Constructed mainly of Indiana limestone, the Civil Courts structure reaches a height of 386 feet; yet because it houses impressive courtrooms and not simple offices, there are only 13 floors in the building.

Credit should be given to local architects Klipstein and Rathmann for creating a memorable courthouse that clearly conveys the central role of law and justice in American life.

If you are from the south, they don't serve sweet tea. You have to add the sweetner yourself. 15% tips for waiter if your party is less than four and 20% if greater. Some restraunts automatically charge you the tip, so check your bill before you tip.

Cardinals Museum

by sswagner

If you came to see Busch Stadium, then perhaps you are interested in the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. They have a nice museum directly across from the stadium that features all sorts of memorabilia associated with the team. All of the best Cardinal players are represented there such as Ozzie Smith, Mark Mcguire, and Lou Brock. Naturally, this museum is also a good place to purchase Cardinals memorabilia.

Cahokia Mounds

by yooperprof

The Cahokia Mounds are little known but fascinating, and they are only a few miles into Illinois on I-70/55. They are the largest surviving Native American construction in North America, and they are an official United Nations-sponsored World Heritage Site.

Check out my Cahokia Mounds State Park (IL) page for photos and directions.
