Currency Exchange
by Joemidwest
Where in St. Louis can you change money, dollars to pesos, at a decent rate? Thank you.
RE: Currency Exchange
by OiKnow
Check with your bank. My local branch orders foreign currency for me. The local bank does not keep foreign currency on hand, it is shipped out of Pittsburg (the banks main office.) The rate is decent, not as good I would get using an ATM card after I arrive, but not nearly as bad as the exchange service in the airport. I think it is worth the extra few dollars to arrive with enough local currency to take a taxi to the hotel and have lunch while I look for a working ATM.
The best deal I ever found on foreign currency was to buy it from a friend who had just returned and was not planning to go back out of the country anytime soon. Ask around, you ever know who might have a hundred Euros gathering dust.
Enjoy!
David

Thanks OiKnow. I am actually across the river in Illinois. You are right, I'm just looking to change for some pesos for transportation lunch etc. We arrive after the banks are closed.

Travel Tips for Saint Louis
The Gateway Arch
by BLSM
The Gateway Arch has a display in the base of the westward expansion. The trains that take you to the top of the arch are small capsules that hold 5 people. If you are clostraphobic you probaly won't like the ride.

Going around St. Louis with a map
by SLLiew
At your hotel or at the St. Louis Information Center, you can get a free map of St. Louis.
Walkabout and/or use the Metrolink/Metrobus to get around the major landmarks of St. Louis.
Do not miss the St. Louis riverfront and the famous Busch Stadium which is the homebase of St Louis Cardinals basketball team as well as the Old St. Louis Union Station for shopping and dining.
Exploring Our Beginnings
by LauraWest
As with any place you live or visit, you appreciate it more if you know some history. St. Louis has a unique history. Residents are proud of it.
The amazing Mound Builders, as they are known, left mystery and a history behind about a thousand years ago. Then European explorers & settlers arrived & still show their stamp on our city in many wonderful ways, from architecture, to food and festivals. For an American city, we have kept much of our historical buildings preserved, as the treasures we know they are. I really like that about this city.
The attached website gives a brief history, and many links for more historical information.
Busch Stadium
by klj&a
As mentioned in my intro, I almost caught a homer by Mark McGwire, but did appear on ESPN since the homer was so close. The stadium is nothing special, but the fans are very knowledgeable and loyal. Red everywhere.
"Candy for the Eyes" and a Stress Reducer
by deecat
When visiting the Saint Louis Union Station, stop at the sculpture fountain across the street. You will be delighted with what you see and hear. This popular fountain is called "Meeting of the Waters", which symbolizes the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. I notice that almost all of the tourist sites have to do with the rivers or the history of the westward expansion. This site is no exception.
Take your time to view carefully this lovely piece of art; stress will melt away.
It is difficult to take a good photo of this beautiful place because it is usually surrounded by so many people and because it covers so much territory. I took three shots of it, and none of them do it justice at all.
