Good, Central Location

I have been staying at the Hampton Inn across from Forest Park (in the area called Highlands) on and off since the beginning of 2007. It's a relatively new hotel, so the rooms are in good shape, and I love the decor, which is modern / mid-century modern.

The suites are roomy and have a refrigerator and microwave, along with a desk, couch and coffee table. The regular rooms are also good sized, although without the fridge and microwave.

Shower heads are nice high, which is always a nice bonus for tall people :)

As with all Hampton Inn's, free breakfast comes with your room, which includes pastries, yogurt, instant oatmeal, scrambled eggs, biscuits, etc.

Depending on the time of year and how busy the hotel is, prices range from $89 to $159/night.

Unique Quality: The land where the hotel is located once was the home of an amusement park (in the early 1900's), and there are black & white photos and other pictures of other related memorabilia decorating the lobby, halls, and and guest rooms.

Hotel has real cable with about 60 channels (not hotel cable) so you can watch The Daily Show :)

While the hotel is not located on a "city street" it is in walking distance to Forest Park, including the Zoo, which is just across the freeway (you can walk across the overpass - there is a sidewalk, but it may be a little dicey at certain times of the day because it also has entry/exit ramps to the freeway).

Hotel is also within walking distance to the Dogtown Neighborhood (about 1/2 a mile), which is the original Irish section of town, and has a couple good pubs, a coffee shop, and a couple of restaurants.

  • Opinion of Price: less expensive than average
