Entrance to Grand Hall Hyatt Regency St. Louis by deecat While in Saint Louis, my friend, Jill Martin, and I stayed in the Hyatt Regency St. Louis, which is part of historic Union Station. It is close to the business and financial centers as well to several tourist attractions. It recently completed a seven million dollar renovation to its guestrooms and has won the AAA Four Diamond Award. Jill and I were so happy that we decided to stay here because of the convenience, the service, the comfort, and, most of all, the history. The hotel has 539 guest rooms and suites. The guest may choose to stay in the Headhouse portion of the Union Station, which represents traditional elegance or in the Garden Hotel, which is tucked under the historic Train Shed. We stayed in the Garden Hotel. After the Union Station closed down in 1978, a year later Oppenheimer Properties purchased the station for 5.5 million dollars. In 1985, after restoration and new construction which totaled 174 million dollars, St. Louis Union Station reopened as a retail, restaurant, entertainment, and hotel complex. Remarkably, this made it the largest adaptive re-use project in the nation, and the Hyatt Regency was proud to be part of that project Although it's an expensive place to stay, we felt that it was every bit worth the expense.
There are executive suites, parlors, presidential suites, and garden rooms. We stayed in a Garden Room, which was furnished with two double beds, an electronic door lock, AM/FM alarm clock radio, hairdryer, iron, ironing board, 27" television with cable movie channels, in-room pay movies, 3 Dual-line telephones, data ports, voice mail, Coffee maker, and Daily newspaper. Our room was spacious and decorated with elegant furnishings and included a "full bath amenities" bathroom. When we first arrived, we noticed that the toilet kept running continuously, so we called and literally within minutes, a repairman came and fixed it. Great service.
