Inexpensive Hotel Near Airport & Transportation into Downtown

by gbores

I'm looking for inexpensive but clean hotel near airport and information on getting downtown (to Busch Stadium)without renting a car or taking a taxi. I'll stay there over the weekend for a couple nights before renting a car to travel on to Illinois for a week. Hope to save two days rent on a rental car by taking public transit into St. Louis.

First one to come to mind is Drury Inn. I have always enjoyed my stay with them wherever I have had the oppurtunity. On this website -

I found a double room for $70. I have not stayed at this property but it is a good location near the airport and appears clean from its outside.
From Lambert Intl. you can catch the MetroLink to downtown and all points in between (including Forest Park, UMSL, Barnes Hospital complex) very inexpensively. There is a MetroLink station next to the new Busch Stadium. You can access the MetroLInk website at -

Have fun here and enjoy the Cardinal game!

April Is Perfect!

by LauraWest

April is one of the Best Months to visit St. Louis!! But I'm in love with the season of Spring, so I'm certainly biased!! But Spring temperatures are so lovely and so are all the blooming trees and plants you see everywhere here! The heat & humidity of summer has not arrived yet, nor the insects.
Stroll in the neighborhoods, the many parks...Soulard is lovely & romantic....

This photo is of the magnolia tree in my backyard...so beautiful. You have to enlarge it with the "postcard" feature to really see the detail. This is how you can view the incredible blosssoms on this tree! Wow, right?!!

A River Runs By It

by AKtravelers

The Mississippi is an unmistakable part of St. Louis' culture, just as the Chesapeake is to Baltimore, the St. Laurence is to Quebec or the Rockies are to Denver. St. Louis music is laced with references to the mighty muddy Mississippi and locals like Mark Twain made their reputations writing stories set on it or by it. Almost every business in St. Louis advertises itself as the earliest or biggest of its kind west of the Mississippi if they can. And every resident can tell you what they were doing each year the river flooded in a major way. Just south of the junction of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, barge traffic has long been a cog in its economic engine and cultural exchanges go up and down the river more than they go east to west -- think of the blues/jazz scene that moves up from New Orleans or all of the different styles of barbecue that have stakes along the river system. In fact, New Orleans style bars and restaurants are very popular in St. Louis; moreso than any other city I've been to. St. Louis is definitely a river city.

Public Course in the City

by LauraWest

Golfing is so popular in Forest Park, in all kinds of weather. I don't know how to golf, but observe the diversity of golfers the many times I am in the park. Using the Probstein course is relatively inexpensive. You can rent a nice motorized cart or walk. No caddies available, as far as I've noticed.

Very nice, new golf house with a restaurant, too. Newly created landscaping and beautiful water features.

St Francis Xavier

by solopes

Created in the end of the 19Th century, this church is part of the University, being also known as the College Church.

Inspired in Irish Gothic, it composes a harmonic contrast with the modern look of the buildings that surround it.
