We stayed here while we went to the NCAA basketball tourney. The rooms were clean, service was good, and the rates were very fair. I would stay here again and would also tell my friends and family about it.
Best of all, everything is just a short walk away and the arch was right out my window.
Better than the reviews

The reviews said this place stunk, but I found otherwise. We were there for a professional geology conference April 1-3, 2004. We found a FANTASTIC view, great service, reasonable price. The rooms were a bit small and took the shape of the round building. The rooms were decorated with "modern" furnishings (don't know the proper decorating term- I'm a geologist). Overall, highly recommend!

Eleven friends and I came to St. Louis for three days and two nights for Spring Break. We decided on the hotel because of its location, and price. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly bellhop. We were about three hours early for check in, but they held our luggage and gave us our parking passes, free of charge, anyway. We came back to check in to find clean, beautifull decorated rooms (the bathroom sink lights up!) We decided to head out for the evening and stopped at the info desk to ask for directions. The man at the desk, Carl, I think, was very helpful. We came back that night and swam. Yes, the pool is small, but it's a hotel, not the beach. We also stopped by the desk to ask about free breakfast, and the immeadiately apologized and handed us our free breakfast vouchers, without questioning the number of people in each room (some hotels get mad when you have more then two people in a room). Breakfast was delicious, and the waiters were wonderful. When we checked out, we loaded up all of cars and asked the bellhop if we could leave them in the parking garage while we went to the zoo. He told us it wasn't safe to leave packed cars in the garage and insisted we leave our cars parked right in front of the hotel for the day, even though we had already checked out! Not to mention, one of my friends ordered some room service, and it ended up being about five minutes late so they gave it to him for free. Very friendly, concerned and helpful staff! Great hotel! Stay here in the summer, and you can use the hot tub. I know we will!
Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My family and I just finished a 3-day stay at the St. Louis Millennium Hotel. Everything was fantastic! Our dinner at the Top of the Riverfront restaurant was out of the world. It was a little pricey but very much worth the cost. The room décor was very modern. My only complaint was a little bit of mold that was in the corner of the shower. I left a note for housekeeping on the first day, and the problem was quickly corrected.

This was by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at, especially for a 4 star! We had four people staying in the room with large suit cases because we were staying there for a long time. There was no where to put the suit cases, there was mold growing on the bathroom, we had to call room service numerous times for more than 2 towels and we still had to go to the front desk for them, food was overpriced for the amount we got, maid came in in the morning while we were getting dressed and started cleaning around us and made us move so she could clean, how rude!!!!!!!!!! Elevators slow, most of the plug ins did not even work, and so many more things I cant even begin to tell you. Never ever stay there, cause I will never again!

is amtrak station area seedy? hotel to recommend?

Some advice, please, on accommodations in St. Louis.
OUR ITINERARY:
We fly in to the airport late one evening. The next day we need a rental car. When we return the St.Louis, we need to return the car and get to a hotel and end up the next morning at the train station to complete our trip.
I'm traveling to St. Louis with a seven year old, and wonder if I should stay near the train station one night so that we can catch a train the next day. Is the area safe and pleasant? Any hotel recommendations?
Or perhaps I need a hotel which would shuttle us between airport and train station area. Ideas?
Thanks.

I assume you mean the downtown Amtrak station, not the one in suburban Kirkwood. Downtown can be a lonely place, depending on the day of the week. Downtown isn't really big but the evening destination areas are sort of spread out.Your & your child may enjoy City Museum if you have energy for climbing, etc. I helped a family on VT a couple Summers ago & they were very happy with the Riverfront Hotel (nice views of Mississippi and the Arch, another place to visit). You could easily take a cab to station from anywhere downtown. If you have the bucks, the Hyatt Regency is in the OLD train station & what a magnificent station that was! Ah, the good, ole days! OLD station is very near the new little one, btw. Hope this helps. Ask me more if you wish or check my Tips, like City Museum.

I meant the Millennium Hotel www.millenniumhotels.com/millenniumstlouis But the Riverfront is GREAT, too! Probably more pricey but I don't know.
You can probably get a good rate on one of the sites you normally use.

Don't know if this will help, but our MetroLink light rail runs between Lambert airport and the Amtrak station downtown.

Don't know how long you need the rental car for but if you are coming in late the Drury Inn is St. Louis based and there is one at the airport. You coud pick up your car the next day and return it to a location in downtown St. Louis where there are several Drury Inns. Don't want to sound like a shill for Drury but have been happy with them every time we've stayed there. St. Louis has a lot of construction going on now as they are rebuilding Interstate 64 and parts of it are closed.
