A really nice hotel in Downtown St Louis

The Renaissance hotel was very nice. I got a great deal on Priceline on a Sunday for 102$ with taxes. My bid was 89$ I bid on the 4 star hotels and got this one. They are slow on Sundays so I think I could have even gotten a better deal.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was bigger than I had seen in any hotel. The bathtub was nothing fancy but it was nice to be able to move around a bit.

The parking is expensive. Normal parking is 14$ a day. We got confused downtown and decided to have our car valet parked for 25$.

We stayed at this hotel to go to a concert at the Savis Center. It is close and taxi ride was less than 10 dollars. This is a great place nothing is free but it's very nice.

Renaissance St. Louis Grand & Suites Hotel

Wow. That pretty much sums up our stay here.

The Christmas party was booked here, so like every year we booked a room for the night. First of all, the lady in reservations, Barb, was wonderful. A couple of days prior to our stay, we decided to see if we could upgrade our room. Not only did we get a great price, they booked us in a hospitality suite, which was HUGE and very nicely decorated. The room consisted of a wet bar and refrigerator, a large dinning area and living room. Then down the hall was a very spacious bedroom with desk, TV and a nice view from both windows. The restroom was gigantic with great amenities, tile and something you don't get at many hotels, great water pressure.

Prior to our arrival, I went to their website and used their "Virtual Concierge" to request a few things for our stay. This is a wonderful service that I recommend using if you get the chance.

The ballroom that we had for the party was beautiful and very spacious. The service for the party was impeccable and considering this was not a small party (approximately 1,000 people) it is something that is always welcomed. The food was very good and the portions were very generous.

So, in a nutshell. From the time we pulled up to valet park to the time we left, our stay here was amazing. The only downfall was that we only stayed one night. I defiantly recommend staying here for a night or two. Plus it is right in the heart of downtown within walking distance of the Edward Jones Dome, Macy's and many other places.

I unfortunately forgot to bring my camara, so the only pictures I have are from the hotel website. The photo of the Deluxe Guest Room, shows exactly how our bedroom in the suite looked.

Unique Quality: This is a historical hotel, built in 1917 and is a huge complex with 23 floors, 875 rooms and 203 suites. I would say it takes up approximately 4 city blocks, however, it is very easy to get around in.

The service is fantastic. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays. They seem to have very good security. Pets allowed, with a non-refundable sanitation fee of $45.00, be sure to contact hotel for details

The Capri restaruant was very good. They have a very nice breakfast buffet. Plus there is a Starbucks in the lobby area.

More about Renaissance St Louis Grand Hotel

Renaissance Grand over priced

by TripAdvisor Member japw82

The Renaissance Grand was a huge disappointment. The rooms are very small. The bathrooms are not user friendly. There is no counter space. The rooms overall are decorated nicely but aren't worth what they charge for events week-ends. The restaurant in the hotel was marginal at best. Service and food was poor. Also, they charge $19 to valet park per day. This is in St. Louis!! The hotel is in a downtown area of boarded up buildings and malls that have no tenants. A room service tray from breakfast was in the hall when we checked in at 4:00 and wasn't picked up until the next morning. The usual $99.00 room rate should be the special events rate.

Solid Hotel for a Rams Game

by A TripAdvisor Member

I would highly recommend this hotel if you're visiting St. Louis for a Rams game. The stadium is about a block away. Also, the arch and Laclede's Landing are only a few blocks' walk.

As for the hotel itself, the renovation of the old building is pretty neat. I thought the lobby was especially well done. The rooms are nothing special (and a little small), but comfortable.

We used hotwire or priceline (can't recall which), and got a room on a Saturday night before the Saints/Rams game for around $75 (can't remember that either). For that price, it was an excellent value.

Comfy mattresses and great lobby!

by TripAdvisor Member Claudia3

We were so pleased with our experience at the Renaissance Hotel. The lobby was decorated with a huge Christmas tree that spanned two stories. The service was so very helpful and courteous. They even invited us to a large cocktail party they were having the next day. Everything had been remodeled but the hotel still gave the feel of the hundred years of history it had left behind. The beds were the best we had slept on and the comforters were made of down feathers. Give yourself a treat and spend the weekend here.

Great hotel, poor location

by TripAdvisor Member OhioRon

I just returned from a three-night stay in this hotel. The hotel itself is quite nice. The rooms are large and roomy, as are the baths, and everything is spotlessly maintained. If you don't plan to leave the hotel or go far, or if you're bringing your car, it's fine. It's across the street from the convention center but, other than that, you can walk for blocks and see only dumpy, vacated buiildings. A huge 4-story mall a block away is nearly empty. Cabs here are VERY expensive so if you take one to dinner somewhere, plan to spend 25-30 EACH WAY. I didn't feel safe walking outside the hotel except during daytime.

above average with some minor problems

by A TripAdvisor Member

I stayed at this hotel Feb. 26 for 2 nights. Overall appearance nice and very clean. The room was nice and clean loved the beds. Bath room was nice although could use some counter space. Valet parking is pricey at $20.00 per day but you do have unlimited in/out priveleges. Self park is $14.00 a day but you have to walk about 1 1/2 blocks. Location is not that great for resaurants etc. they do have restaurants that deliver. Hotel restaurant is pricey. Convention center right across the street. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Overall stay was above average.

Very nice but lots of hidden fees

by A TripAdvisor Member

The first thing that strikes you is the architecture and decor. It is truly top of the line. The beds are super comfortable. But, the prices are average/high and this hotel "nickel and dimes" its guests. You pay $14 a day for parking - they offer no discount. There is no discount for restaurants and they charge $10 a day for internet access. None of these fees are listed on the website. The pool was cold and small but the hot tub was great. The front desk clerks are nothing spectacular but the management was very helpful.

Great location for Conv Center, Jones Dome events

by TripAdvisor Member ATVRider

Stayed here for a night on a March weekend. We attended an event at the Jones Dome and the hotel location, along with very convenient and reasonably priced parking, made for a comfortable stay. Got better rates using AAA and thought the beds were comfortable and the rooms were quiet. Having a Starbucks in the lobby is a big plus too. Very pleased and would recommend, especially if you are going to a convention or an event at the Dome.

Nice Hotel, But is There a City Here?

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed there in August, 2004 with my wife and son. Beautiful hotel, attentive staff, nice restaurant, but I could swear that we were the only people staying there. Were there two nights and three days in the middle of the week, the streets were deserted, there was no traffic, we were the only people at the Arch. We felt like we were in the Twilight Zone. We left town a day early thoroughly creeped out.
