In Springfield, like anywhere else in the United States, there are lanes where the original brick buildings still stand adjacent to one another, and seamless in a long street-front. Springfield has two such historic districts, Walnut Street and Commercial Street, the preservation of both being at present a high priority in city councils.
The true measure in my opinion of a zoo's worthiness are its variety of animals, its habitats and treatment of animals, and the number of the larger animals, specifically the giraffes, hippos, elephants and the like, but especially the bears and big cats. The Dickerson Park Zoo has two very large black bears which are native to Missouri. On the hot, sultry day of my visit, I was surprised to see the larger bear sleeping directly in the sunlight, shattering a myth that they always seek shaded areas for their beds.
Hemmingways is a restaurant inside of the Bass Pro Shop. It is up the stairs. Here is the view from the dining balcony.
Giant aquarium behind the bar. We had the lunch buffet. All the food was very good. I liked the catfish about the best of all.
Of course everyone knows Aaron Buerge from the bachelor well this is his restaurant. I have seen him there once, he's okay just not my type. The word is he doesn't have a lot of respect for the women, but that is all heresay; I don't know him personally.
The restaurant has a great atmosphere with an outdoor terrace which is always important to me. This place was voted Best Singles Hangout by 417 magazine and now that I think of that there are a lot of single people there. Nights to get crowded so get there early if you want a table. Some nights they also have a band playing-I got up to sing with them one night (sorry guys was a little tipsy:)
Overall it is a really good time. I really enjoy the thai lettuce wraps. They also have a drink called the Bachelor Party, it is huge and costs $15. I think it is made to be shared with friends, but I did see a girl drink one by herself, then she went and hit on Aaron. You go girl!
The first major building of Drury College and said to be the first stone building in Springfield, the chapel of Drury College was begun in 1880 from a gift of $50,000 from a private donor. Listed on the National Register of Historic Sites, it is the most notable of the college buildings and a landmark of present-day Springfield.
