Travel Tips for Springfield

Bible Belt II

by mrclay2000

There are nearly 200 churches in Springfield, and you are as apt to run into a house of worship as you are to run into a fast-food franchise or a cheap motel. Institutes of higher learning tied to a religious base are equally common.

Dickerson Park Highlights

by mrclay2000

The zoo has a single male lion but no lionesses, no tigers, jaguars, mountains lions or leopards. Apart from the sole cheetah and a single bobcat (the latter being native to Missouri), the Dickerson Park Zoo offers the King of Beasts in a solitary playground.

Great Italian food!!!

by Moustique about Avanzare

I have been to this place several times and have been satisfied each time. great food, great atmosphere and great service! They speacilize in northern italian food and have a world class chef tony garcia. it is a great romantic place or also they have tables for groups. They also have a private dining room that seats 45 people. i love thier bruschetta alla toscana and polo balsamico! Thier lasgna is supposed to be the best in town

Cheap but good BBQ

by Moustique about Bandana's Bar-b-que

A new restaurant to springfield, so of course I have been there. No need to dress up for this place, a VERY casual atmosphere. It kind of reminds me of a mexican restaurant without all the colors. The bbq is wonderful though and they all kinds of sauces to chose from. The corn on the cob is wonderful and you must try it!!!

St Paul's United Methodist Church

by mrclay2000

The first church organized in Springfield was established in 1832. After a schism in the church over the slavery issue, an earlier structure served in the Civil War as a Confederate hospital and later as a Union arsenal. Listed on Springfield's Register of Historic Places, the building was constructed in 1904 at a cost of $50,000.
