Good For Families
Chet Huntley, the famous news anchor, was the visionary behind Big Sky and the kingpin in its development. Our room is at the Huntley Lodge, the first lodge at the resort when it opened in the early 1970’s. Richly decorated in a rustic western motif, the Lodge features a huge bronze bear statue, titled “Sitting Bear” in the lower lobby. An upper lobby has a great fireplace and gathering area. With two pools we like choosing the outdoor pool setting that fits our mood. Our room is a traditional hotel room with two queen beds, of course, in western décor. Extra touches are the crisp white linens, flat screen TV, a table and chairs in this spacious room, as well as a wet bar with a small refrigerator. Very comfy room and the lodge has so many nice features as does the Resort.
I had the opportunity to tour their various buildings seeing the variety of accommodations offered at Big Sky. I recommend check out the various types of lodging available to see what best fits a traveler's needs for their visit. For our one night stay the Huntley Lodge room was perfect. For a longer stay, it would have been nice to have an efficiency, suite, or one bedroom condo.
Unique Quality: Excellent pool, great views, convenient to all restaurants and activity. Plus has a great bar and restaurant.
Huntley - Still going strong
I first set foot at Huntley lodge in 2005. Since then I have stayed there 3 times and I plan to go again next month.
Even if Huntley may need some renovation, it has its charm.
Big fireplaces, stuffed animals and a lot of atmosphere.
A good buffet breakfast in the morning.
2 jacuzzis and an outdoor pool for after ski.
The rooms are not so very big and there is little space for clothes.
Otherwise comfortable and very close to the slope
Unique Quality: Very good location. In the middle of the mountain village. Just a short walk to the slope and the mountain mall.
The hotel/lodge is located right at the base of the mountain ski lifts. You just walk right over. The hotel has a very big heated pool and it is very warm! That was very nice after some skiing. The ski room will hold your skis for free and offers other services for a fee. Breakfast at the lodge is pretty good. Our stay included breakfast so I'm not sure what it costs to have breakfast there. The views from the restaurant are just wonderful so that is an added plus at breakfast. The rooms were not luxurious but very comfortable. Nothing fancy but I did like the electric heater as it was much quieter than some places I have stayed. The TV in the room is the old style analog and channel selections are limited. Free wireless internet available throughout the hotel including your room. Free public transportation is just a few steps outside the lodge. We only had one sink in the bathroom, I prefer having two sinks so we can get ready at the same time. Overall we had a nice stay.
