In September of 2006, the Northern Hotel was closed and in January 2009, was sold at auction. It is slated to open early 2013 under new ownership and management. The building has been stripped back to the beams and completely remodeled, has new staff, and will include 2 new restaurants. Check out The Northern Hotel on Facebook for updates on the renovation!
Riversage Inn is located 5 minutes from the airport next to the Billings Clinic. It is close to downtown shopping, restaurants, and the Alberta Bair Theater. However, don’t let the name fool you, it is not located on a river. To date, the Riversage Inn is one of our preferred places to stay when we plan an overnight in Billings. This is a reasonably priced, completely non-smoking Inn. Because of this the rooms are not only comfortable, but also fresh smelling. We have also found that the rooms are clean, and have fairly quiet heaters and air conditioners when compared to some of the other places we have stayed. Within the room you will find a coffee maker with complimentary coffee packets, and a hair dryer. Microwaves and refrigerators are available, and pets are allowed in some rooms for an additional fee. In the evenings you will find freshly made popcorn in the lobby area, and coffee and tea are available 24 hours a day. For reservations call 1-800-231-7782. Photo two shows the exterior of the Inn.
Your Riversage Inn stay includes a free continental breakfast, which is available from 6 to 9:00 each weekday, and 6:00 to 10:00 on weekends. The breakfast includes coffee, tea, juice, apples, English muffins, donuts, sweet rolls, grained and white bread for you to toast yourself, along with peanut butter, jams, cream cheese, and butter. There is also free wireless Internet, a small fitness center, a coin-operated Laundromat, and valet laundry service. The fitness room is located on first floor, and includes one elliptical, a treatmill, and a recumbent bike. Anyone using the room must be at least 18 years old.
Located only 5 minutes from the airport, the Inn offers free transportation to and from the airport. If you are a AAA member you may receive a AAA discount.
Stayed 2 nights in Aug. 2002. This is an old hotel that had not been remodeled to the point of losing character. Owners have changed, however, and I plan to stay there this Aug. to find out if much has been lost. At last visit, I'd highly recommend this hotel to those who prefer a slightly more old-fashioned experience. Rooms are very clean and have all the amenities
Stayed here one night in April & was very happy with the service and the room. Room was clean and even smelled clean. Coffee and iron/ironing board provided. Only caveat is that the motel is close to I-90, so not too quiet. but most of the franchise motels in Billings are similarly located. Kelly price was low, and I thought the room was as good as many higher-priced ones.
WARNING! Although this is an older motel, it has always been well kept up, and very clean in appearance. The last few times we were there it looked as though it could use a little maintenance here and there. This I can live with, however, last time we were there, there was hair in the bathtub strainer, and even though the shower curtain was draped back in the position they place the curtain in after cleaning the tub, obviously the housekeeper had not done the required cleaning. This motel is AAA rated, and cleanliness is one of their requirements, if I had been an AAA representative, they could have lost their rating. I will have to reevaluate this motel at a later time. For now, if you are looking for a reasonably priced motel near down town, I would recommend that you use the Riversage Inn that I have evaluated in one of my other tips.
This inn is convenient to Deaconess Hospital, clinic, restaurants and downtown shopping and businesses. The Metra and airport are an easy drive from here. A small continental breakfast is included with the cost of your room. There are 65 units available, 3 with kitchen. The building is two stories with interior hallways. This is an older motel, and in the past year is beginning to show its age. Last time we were there the stopper in our sink was not working correctly, and the hall carpet looked a little faded. Still, it is clean, and generally quiet. The price is right, and I know we will continue to stay here on our overnights in Billings. In 2008 the price for two was $67 with taxes.
A small exercise room and sauna are available for guests, and outside plugs are offered for visitors so they may plug their cars in during the winter. If you are a AAA member you may receive a AAA discount.
Because Billings is a regional center - there are many types of motels or hotels available to the traveler. Campgrounds are also located in and around the city. The very first KOA (Kampgrounds of America) is located in Billings.
The Sheraton downtown is the tallest building in Montana. And is located near a lot of attractions. And the Northern Hotel - a historic hotel - is also located downtown.
