Travel Tips for Gardiner

The Main Street

by annk

The main street is lined with numerous shops, restaurants and saloons catering to visitors on their way to Yellowstone. The town is sort of charming with it's rustic, western facades.

Not all of these are on the main street but within the confines of the town:
28 - motels and bed and breakfasts
11 - restauarants & bars
33 - shops and services

Big Sky Country

by annk

The surrounding wilderness, rolling hills, pines, snow-capped mountains and wide open spaces was refreshing and attractive.
Driving to and from Gardiner we also saw bison and elk. Other wildlife sitings could include birds, antelope, bears, big horn sheep, coyotes, mule deer and wolves.

The Only Year Round Entrance to Yellowstone

by kazander

Gardiner is situated on the Northern Edge of Yellowstone National Park. This quaint little town offers alternative lodging and dining for those of us that don't want to stay and eat courtesy of Xanterra the entire time we are visiting this amazing national treasure.
Gardiner has a great history of being partened with our nation's 1st national park. Visitors from the 1800's would come to Yellowstone via the trains that took them to Gardiner. Back in the day, this town had 26 saloons! One way to warm up during those brutal winters I suppose! They have quite a few less than that now. The main street is lined with little touristy shops, a gallery and some places to eat. As you get a bit further into the town, there are a number of places to stay.
The original entrance to Yellowstone, the Roosevelt Arch, is located here. In the winter, when the other entrances close, the Northern entrance remains open.

The North Entrance to Yellowstone

by annk

"Gardiner, another gateway to Yellowstone"

The town of Gardiner is located close to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park and just 5 miles from the famous Mammoth Hot Springs area. It's claim to fame is the Roosevelt Arch erected in 1903 with it's inscription "For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People".

The town provides an alternative place to stay while visiting America's first National Park to the somewhat expensive and quickly booked up lodging in the park. There are a number of modern hotels and a western-looking main street lined with shops, restaurants and bars.
