Great Falls. Montana
Lewis and Clark weren't too thrilled when they passed through what is now Great Falls, Montana. They encountered a series of 5 waterfalls on the Missouri River that took them three weeks to portage their boats and supplies around.
Today, Great Falls is a much more pleasant experience. It is an excellent town to use as a base for exploring Central Montana. It contains a couple of World Class museums, as well as a number of scenic and historic sites.
It is not located in the mountains of western Montana, although their foothills begin a short drive west. Rather, Great Falls is located in the rolling hills of the Great Plains, which have their own gentle beauty.
