Travel Tips for Helena

Bring Layers!

by montana40

Dry mountain climate can change 40 degrees in any 24 hour period. Bring both the tank top and the parka! Seriously. It can be 90 degrees one day, a cold front roll in and be 40 degrees the next morning. In my lifetime we have had 100 degrees in August and we have had SNOW in August. Ditto for June. (Plus an infamous 1959 snowstorm on the fourth of July!) The most certain thing about the weather is that it can change. Dress in layers when outdoors so you can warm up or cool down as needed.

Welcome to Helena

Helena is beautiful but remote. There are more and more affluent natives who are returning after successful careers here. Despite MT Native's comments very bright and entrepenurial spirits are born and raised here. Unfortunately, many of us had to move away to make something of ourselves.

Steinbeck said that you could find the climate and terrain of any of the other 48 lower states in Montana. Helena is centrally located to many of those terrains.

We have a great Jazz Festival, and some decent rodeos. The people are hardworking and loyal.

I would highly recommend that businesses look at Helena as a possible business location, especially for high tech and / or light manufacturing. You can very easily be a big dog in a little yard.

Come to Helena, stay, and help make it what it could be, the Queen City of the Rockies.

Helena was a nice place to visit, but a terrible place to live. One of the best attractions about Helena is the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. The night life in Helena consists of bar brawls and blinking stop lights. Not much is open after 10pm.
