More about Lolo Hot Springs

If you have read my other...

by Beast

If you have read my other pages might note that I don't mention accomodations specifically. There is one very worthy of noting. Big Creek Pines Bed and Breakfast is an absolutely marvelous experience. The owner provides some of the most excellent breakfast's one could imagine and the location is breath taking. Great people. Very private.
I think it was about $75.00/ night. This place will reduce your stress level by about 99% and its a lot more fun then a shrink:) Privacy, your own private bath, excellent views of the Ruby Mountains to the east and the Bitteroot Wilderness to the west. Close to the river where deer can be seen every am and pm. Great people with a whole different idea about breakfast. This is not a coffee and doughnut operation. And priced about $70.00 cheaper than it ought to be. The picture is of the North Fork of the Flathead River in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. As you look west about 1 mile way are the Bitteroot Mountains in all their majesty. St. Mary's Peak dominates the whole view. I find myself frequently starring at it and marvelling its beauty. If you are up for a day drive, go south to Hamilton (30 minutes) and take the seasonal 'highway' 38 across the Skalkaho Pass to Georgetown Lake. This is a beautiful drive but is only open during the summer. The road is a little rough but most cars should not have a problem, although I would leave the Ferrari home for this drive. You could eat lunch Georgetown Lake Lodge and maybe even drown a worm or two. I don't mind telling you that the fishing can be pretty good here so this is no secret. You'll be looking for fat rainbows. To get back either return by the same route or head up Hwy 1 to the Interstate 90 then back to Missoula and south to Stevensville. Another great drive is going to Lolo Hot Springs off Hwy. 12. You could go another 20 minutes to the Lolo Pass where there is a visitor center and more awesome country. The Bitteroot River has been been infected with a desease that killed about 90% of the trout during 1997-1999. The fish are making a come back but it will be a while before there is a healthy population of trout. That being the case you might consider releasing anything you catch in the Bitteroot River.
