Pine Edge and Silver Gate Cabins: The Perfect Getaway

We stumbled upon Silver Gate while trying to plan our family trip last year. We were looking for a place in or near Yellowstone that my family and my brother's family could all stay at. I could not be happier that we ended up at Pine Edge Cabins. I have two young kids and my brother has a daughter, so all in all we needed to find a place to stay for 7 of us. Silver Gate Cabins and Pine Edge Cabins are owned by the same people and are right next to each other. My family was able to get a cabin with a double bed and a bunk bed, kitchen and bathroom in the Pine Edge section and my brother was able to get a cabin with two queen beds, kitchen, and a bathroom in the Silver Gate section. The staff was really helpful and friendly, and the beds were incredible (my husband has a bad back and didn't complain ONCE, hallelujah!) Henry, the owner, was in the general store every morning brewing up fresh coffee and offering his tips, tricks, and advice about Yellowstone to anyone that was interested; you could tell that he genuinely cared about helping you to have the best experience possible. I can honestly say that our Yellowstone experience would not have been the same, or as complete, had we not stayed in Silver Gate. HIGHLY recommend staying here.

Silver Gate has an incredible view; mountain peaks shoot up all around and there is one grand mountain (I forget the name of it) that still had snow on it in July!

Pine Edge/Silver Gate Cabins: Unethical practices at Pine Edge Cabins

I would not recommend staying here. While this place may be rustic and quaint, the management has some unethical practices. I have a gift certificate for almost $200 that they refuse to honor - first they said it was expired and when I told them that legally gift certificates in Montana can't expire, they changed their tune and said they have been having issues with "bootlegged" gift certificates so they wouldn't honor mine - essentially accusing me of faking a gift certificate and taking my $200 with them. Be very wary when dealing with these folks who own both the Pine Edge and Silver Gate Cabins. Hi Jolee, We have no record of your gift certificate. Therefore the gift certificate is not valid. The easiest way to resolve this matter is for you to come up this weekend (Fri & Sat) and enjoy your stay. The initial cabin that you spoke to Holly about (Cabin # 4) is still set aside for you.

We don’t have a main office during the winter months so when you come into the little town of Silver Gate you will be looking for the Silver Gate General Store (on the left one mile from the Yellowstone gate). The store is closed for the season but we still use the store as the headquarters. On the front door of the store we will have a note and map giving you instructions to your cabin. The cabin will be unlocked, heat and lights will be on in the cabin so make yourselves at home anytime Friday afternoon. Enjoy the trip thru the Park - Bob

Bob-I’ve just spent the last 15 minutes trying to fax this to you. The reason I started emailing in the first place was because I cannot get through to your phone line. I have tried using the 406 area code, not using the area code and even tried Wyoming – just in case. The recording I get says this number is not in service 406-838-2043.

Rather than me, your customer, spending more time on this unnecessarily, please check your records. This was purchased by my sister in the fall, a few years ago in the amount of $190.46. Holly mentioned that you stopped using these laminated gift cards in 2005, so I would start looking in the fall of 2005. Thank you, Jolee

Hi Jolee, The question isn’t whether the gift certificate is valid in Montana as we know a real gift certificate tracked, numbered and documented have no expiration date. We understand that. We just want to make sure this is not one of those bootleg cards we’ve seen the past. If you can fax a copy over tomorrow of the card that would be great. We’ll take a look at it and I’ll get back to you as soon as we receive it. Thanks for understanding Bob

Hi Bob. I am at work right now and don’t have the certificate with me, but can fax it in the morning. As I mentioned to Holly, my card does not have the number on it, but I do have a laminated card that should look familiar to you and all of the documentation that was sent with it (brochure, check-in/out instructions, etc.).

I own a boutique in Bozeman, so I understand gift certificates. I number mine and track them so people cannot reproduce them. But I also know that gift certificates can’t legally expire. I will fax this to you tomorrow, but you may also be able to check your records. This gift certificate was purchased as a gift by my sister [name removed for privacy]. Thank you, Jolee

Hello Jolee, This is Bob – Holly’s husband and General Manager. In the past few years for whatever reason we have had people try to present homemade or phony gift certificates. To protect our business the gift certificates that we give out are custom made, one of a kind using a numbering system to track where our gift certificates are assigned to and when they are used. If can fax me a copy of your card and it is one of our documented gift certificates than by all means we would love to have you up here. The fax number is 406-838-2043. Thank you very much Bob

Holly- By state law, gift certificates cannot expire – that is why I was in no rush to use it. Therefore, I would like to use it this weekend. Thank you, Jolee

Hi Jolee, Since the latter part of 2005 we have been using a numbered gift certificate system. Gift certificates are valid for (1) years time and must have one of our numbers on the gift certificate in order be valid. Since this card would appear to be over 1 year it is no longer a valid gift certificate and I can’t accept it. Sorry. Let me know what you’d like to do. Holly

Hi Holly- Sorry I didn’t get back to you before today – I left town Friday afternoon and just returned to my computer.

[address removed for privacy]

Regarding the gift certificate, there is no number on it. It is a laminated card that says: Pine Edge Cabins Gift Certificate good for $190.46 to be used towards lodging in our Pine Edge Log Cabin Rentals. At the bottom it says: Reservations required. Call 406-838-2371. Ask for Bob or Holly T.

I am familiar with Silver Gate and have stayed at Pine Edge in the past. Thanks for your help.
Jolee

Great I’m glad you’ll be coming out this way.

I need an address for the record books to start. When you have the gift certificate in front of you I need the number on the bottom right hand side of the certificate to start with. Than I can see what we’re dealing with.

Are you familiar with Silver Gate and where we’re located? I’ll need to give you some simple instructions as well. If you can send me the above information we can go from there. Thanks – Holly

Hi Holly- Sounds good, please reserve the cabin for my husband and I for Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19. We will pay for part of the cabin on a gift certificate that we have and the rest with a visa. Please let me know what I need to do next. Thanks, Jolee
