It did the job, but nothing impressive
by TripAdvisor Member Dr_Katz
The hotel was in a good location for our purposes (i.e., close to the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park). While the rooms were clean and pretty big, they have definitely seen better days. We were getting up before dawn and arriving back late, so we didn't spend too much time in the hotel or walking around West Yellowstone. But I would guess that most of the hotels in this town are a bit run down. They all look pretty dated. Of course, if you're going to Yellowstone, you shouldn't be hanging out in the hotel anyway. (You can see walls and carpeting anywhere.) We stayed in one of the jacuzzi rooms the last night and were quite disappointed. The jacuzzi tub looked like it had been installed by an amateur. I recommend avoiding these rooms - it's not worth the extra money. Overall, I'd say it's fairly typical of what you'd expect from a hotel in West Yellowstone, but you could probably save some money staying elsewhere.
Always a GREAT stay!

This was our third stay at the Holiday Inn in West Yellowstone. The price is always very reasonable, the rooms are always sparkling clean, and the staff is always helpful and friendly. The restaurant was less than great, but there are PLENTY of other eating establishments in town. The jacuzzi suites are a favorite here. The price is quite reasonable in the off season and the rooms are huge with a fridge and microwave.
Agree with Dr Katz review
by TripAdvisor Member Soglio
We stayed in West Yellowstone for three nights of our honeymoon. We completely agree with the review of Dr. Katz: the hotel did the job, but was nothing to write home about. I can't say we felt it lived up to some reviews which billed it as THE place to stay in this town--maybe it is, but that's more a statement about West Yellowstone than the hotel.
We also had a room with the jacuzzi. No time to use it and would have been just as happy without it. While bed and bathroom were clean, the overall hotel had a very dated and tired look that seemed to cry out for a major renovation. With new hotel construction in plain site of the entrance, I'm sure this will need to be addressed. West Yellowstone was nowhere near as impressive as Jackson, WY, (this includes restaurants, inns, and shopping), but the locals were all very nice, courteous, and most pleasant.
It was an Ok place to stay, did the job.....

It was an ok place to stay, a little pricey. My husband liked the little casino they had. I wouldn't recommend eating at their restaurant. It did have good access to Yellowstone National Park. Next time we will find a different hotel to stay in.
Great Hotel

I really liked this Hotel. Room was very big and clean. We stayed here and did the snowmobiling in Yellowstone down to Old Faithful. ( For anyone interested, the guide suggested doing the Canyon tour instead of the Old Faithful tour).
I have no complaints at all about this hotel. We usually try to stay on the top floors to eliminate any 'ceiling noise'. Again, our room was big, nice and roomy.....and clean too.
For a great dinner and drinks, go to Bullwinkles. Excellent food. I had their sirloin salad both nights and it is fabulous.
We ate at the restaurant at the hotel for breakfast.......it was average. Nothing bad, just average.
Big Rooms, Convenient Location, Nice Staff
by TripAdvisor Member MotherInDuluth
We were happy with our choice of The Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort. We stayed from Christmas until New Year's Eve day.
Pros: The rooms were large with a sofa area that would easily accommodate a roll away bed. There is also a coffee maker, fridge, and microwave in every room. Everything was clean, the staff was nice and helpful. The location in West Yellowstone is very convenient. The Oregan Line Executive Train Cars is a nice bonus. The indoor swimming pool and hot tub, while small were great for the kids.
Cons: It's nothing fancy. I imagine the pool is packed in the summer. The restaurant varies greatly in service and in food quality. The sound insulation between floors was poor. It was great for most of our visit, then they opened up the rooms on the 3rd floor. All the activities wear everyone out so it was only really bad when all the newbies were checking in. (Note that the staff was very responsive to the problem.)
Winter West Yellowstone Tips from a Georgia Peach:
Plan some extra non-scheduled time to take advantage of the day in West Yellowstone while the snowmobiles and snowcoaches are out of town.
Rent snowshoes or cross country skis and hit the trails
Walk around town/Browse the shops
Wolf and Bear Center
Imax
Bear Den Cinema (one show at night - little theater)
Spirit of the North Dog Sleds - It is the experience of a lifetime!
Since we flew in to Bozeman, we stayed at the Bozeman Holiday Inn the last night of our trip so we could relax and enjoy the drive and not be trying to get to the airport in a hurry.
Enjoyable Visit

I chose this hotel based on reviews as it's supposed to be one the better properties in West Yellowstone. The staff were friendly and helpful and it's in a good location at the end of a street that was quiet at night but close to restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of space. The free internet in the lobby was handy as was the laundry room. However this was very popular and we ended up having to camp out by a machine waiting for it to finish and lay claim to it. It's only a short walk to the IMAX cinema and the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center (which I really enjoyed). We didn't use the restaurant but can recommend The Three Bears just down the road for breakfast.
Wonderful place, would stay there again for sure!

We just got back from West Yellowstone. The Holiday Inn was fantastic! Great suite, walking distance to the shops and restaurants and 1/2 mile from the gates to Yellowstone Park. Could not have been more pleased. (Except for the Prime Rib in the hotels restaurant. Not good)
Very dim light in a dark experience

Typical dull Holiday Inn. For $179 a night I expected more, but the biggest disappointment was the town itself. I was in West Yellowstone
for 2 nights and I walked out of 2 restaurants because of lousy service and lousy food. The staff at Budget rental car location need a refresher course on customer service. The town itself is run down and depressing. It definitely needs a facelift. I would recommend either accommodations in the park or closer to the south entrance. I
even called the Chamber of Commerce which I have never done.
Extremely disappointed with West Yellowstone!
