I usually do not like staying at hotels very much, but this one was very nice. Especially considering we found it in the middle of Nebraska. Everyone LOVED the waterslides in the indoor waterpark. It also had a gym and many restaurants in the area. We went to a great steakhouse.

My Campsite at Sherman Reservoir by Stephen-KarenConn Sometimes a hotel is nice. But when given a choice, and especially when the weather is beautiful, it's a mystery to me why more travelers don't take advantage of free campsites like this one. You would pay a small fortune for a resort room with a view like this. And what a glorious feeling it was to look up at a billion stars at night through the open flap of my tent and to hear the crickets chirping and the gentle lapping of the waves just a few feet away.
Sherman Lake has a water surface area of 2,845 acres, and is adjoined by 1,541 acres of recreational land. There are 360 primitive campsites, picnic tables, picnic shelters and vault toilets. I am told there are also coin operated shower facilities in the Recreation Area but I was unable to find them at this particular site. A bonus is that you may meet other campers and travelers. Like the family I met here, they are almost always interesting people.

Lake Minatore State Park, Bridgeport State Recreational Area
The only places that I remember staying in Nebraska are these two campgrounds. Lake Minatore is near Scottsbluff, and I remember it as the better campground. I did little more than pull into a spot after dark and leave early the next morning, but the lake seemed fairly pretty. Bridgeport State Recreation Area was pretty rough as I remember it. Again, I was just looking for a place to sleep as I drove home, but I wasn't impressed. On the positive side, I remember taking a little walk along the lake on the morning after spending the night there, and the fog over the water was pretty. I saw these places in '93, so they may have improved dramatically. On the other hand, I would check carefully before planning to stay there for more than a night in passing. Theme: Campground

We stayed at a little bed and breakfast place that we probably would not stay at again. It was not terrible but it was just not good enough I want to recommend it. Theme: Bed and Breakfast

Somewhere on the interstate going straight throught this state I had to pull over and get some sleep. I got screwed BIG TIME by the lady at the desk running the hotel. My advice? Skip this state. Go to Michigan instead to admire the forestry and campgrounds or Russia to smile about the strange poopers! Heh heh. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay toooooooooo hiiiiiiiigh!!!!!!!!!

The Magnolia Hotel in the downtown Omaha has just been newly renovated and made to look modern. The rooms are nice, the hotel staff is nice and the presentation was very good. My only complaint is that the hotel is right next door to a Fire Station, so at 3 a.m. when the firemen wake up to save the day, you're waking up with them. Also, as I understood it from the locals, the neighborhood is not that great. There is a Greyhound bus depot right behind the hotel, so you have lots of drifters walking around, I didn't have any troubles, but was advised not to walk alone at night.
Historical Building, very nice decor inside, very modern, located near the Old Market. Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 1615 Howard St. Omaha, Nebraska
