How to survive on this food?
by cochinjew
Much of the food served for eating is not fit for human consumption, it is totally garbage, but if you are a little careful, you can get some nutrition. the bet is to shop at Wild Oats or Whole Foods where one can get pesticide free, chemically bare food.
An average american eats close to one hundred pounds of chemicals per year, everything is fortified with chemicals: no wonder many of the diseases have increased: obesity, diabetes, autism, hypothyroidism, low levels of testosterone in men...
After shopping at Wildoats for the food for the few days I am here, I have lunch there as well from their deli, you can choose between american food or asian food as well as some good cheeses. Sparkling water. organic fruit and vegetables
it is at the end of Dodge street well past the Mall and Best Buy on the right around the 72nd street and wild oats is on the left
Great steaks
by Lizchiq about Paxton Chop House
This is a relatively new establishment in downtown Omaha. Located inside a new loft building, has a traditional steakhouse feel- oversized booths, low lighting, etc. The steak that I had was really quite good, however, a little charred on the outside for my taste. Nevertheless, it was cooked perfectly medium rare as I had ordered it.
The service was nice as well. The heirloom tomato salad for the appetizer was good. Also, the way they cooked the artichoke was great; instead of just steaming it, they threw it on the grill for a bit, giving it somewhat of a crispy texture.
The dessert was good as well... all in all, a really good experience.
A NICE LUNCH SPOT
by Rich62 about THE MARKET BASKET
Just a nice place to have lunch, maybe pick up some bakery items, plus they have a nice selection of Stonewall Kitchen products (jams & jellies, mustards, chutneys, etc.) available for purchase at reasonable prices.
Joslyn Art Museum.

For a city its size, Omaha has one of the most impressive art museums around. This one has a good collection from many different periods. It also has concerts (Robert Cray performed there once), movies, and a great Oscar Night party.
Where and how to get a taxi
by barattataxi
"When arriving at the Eppley Airport, to get a taxi"
There is a hale button at the terminal, but you have to wait and then you have no idea who the driver is or if they can get you to your destination in a economical manner(the shortest distance between 2 points). The best thing to do is to call the taxi and have them meet you at the airport 10 min after your arrival. Shop around for a good taxi because this really is your lifeline to the city. Make sure they know Omaha. There are a lot of places to dine and travel to that are beautiful and economical.
One of my favorites is the underground at the Old Market. Your taxi driver should know both the very best in town and the cheapest as well all the wonderful attractions of Omaha.
