Visit Omaha, youll be very suprised
by denver1982
I am suprised that Kansas City, MO has gotten more reviews than Omaha, NE they are both around a million people anyway id visit Omaha because they alot of amenities that much, much bigger cities done have.
I know there is like 15 colleges and universities in the city of Omaha and about 5 more in the Lincoln area....and they are fairly big as well and cheap (somebody said its less than 3,000 dollars a year at the University of Nebraska and its less than 1,000 dollars a year for a junior colleges and this state heavily subsidizes everything including education)
Omaha also has a gigantic convention center(Council Bluffs and Lincoln also have convention centers) and they have many old sokol halls and like 4 arts performance halls
Omaha is a very nice city and I would highly recommend it....My current place of residence on the other hand Columbus, OH is a very nasty city that is decaying so visit Omaha instead of the other side of the midwest
Red Lobster! I love Red...
by SheDragon
Red Lobster! I love Red Lobster. I know it's terrible of me to not prefer something less commercial, but I LOVE seafood, and Red Lobster does seafood at a fairly affordable price! The shrimp pasta...it's fettucini alfredo with tons of shrimp! It's a bit greasy, so if you don't like a lot of grease you may want to avoid this one, but I love it! I also like their shrimp feast. It's just huge!
Very Pretentious Restaurant in Old Market
by cochinjew about V Mertz
I was looking forward to my dinner at this restaurant. when i entered with seven other people, the decor was welcoming and the waiters formal and non smiling and most disappointingly the place was full of visiting businessmen, in fact our table was the only one with women (four out of eight).
The disappointment deepened when the waite appeared with something which one of the guests remarked: is that food for Barbie?
Two bottles of wine was chosen by a knowledgeable psychiatrist which was enjoyable. the main dish i wanted, of alaskan salmon based dish, was available only to two guests who ordered before me, so i decided to order something else. Service was courteous and efficient, but most importantly we were there to dine with friends and solid friendships were being found and i could converse with almost everyone one at our table, so the evening was extremely pleasant, and it was not due to the food or service, despite of it I chose a grass fed lamb, from oregon. there were meat dishes prominent on the menu, hardly any fish dishes and the range was limited.
it is probably, with the exception of the restaurant at the Hilton Hotel, is the most expensive restaurant in Omaha
The Old Market
by Toughluck
While most would put this under either the restaurants (and I've some there) or shopping, I find the Old Market to be a place to 'just be'. The old buildings, renovated for use, still show the signs of when this was a transportation hub to the west. Goods came in by steamboat, then by railroad. Held, sorted, repacked and sent on westward, the river bank was lined with warehouses. Trains, trucks, and boats serviced the nation and Omaha was in the middle of all the activity. Today, there is only the Old Market to remind us of what used to spread from the tracks on the south edge of the old market to the Interstate, now north of Leahy Park. The Warehouses ran right down to the river, where the corporate offices of ConAgra stand in a park setting. This town has been in the middle of life on the plains for over a century and continues to thrive.
VISIT THE GENE LEAHY MALL
by Rich62
THIS IS A NICE OUTDOOR AREA featuring sculptures, water features, pedestrian bridges, historical plaques and so on. Plus, right across the street are interesting restaurants and businesses.
Please keep in mind that the photos were taken in March, before the trees and grass had greened up to make the area prettier.
