Travel Tips for Omaha
Husker Fans: beware insulting...
by kmifflin
Husker Fans: beware insulting them.
Omaha has just as many Husker fans as Lincoln. You do not attempt to be jovial on a Saturday they have lost. The best time to do any sort of grocery shopping on a Saturday, is during the game, not before or after. If you want to blend in, wear red at all times.
Yes, there IS good hospital food
by kimberbakos about Children's Hospital Cafe
Ok, so you wouldn't go to a hospital just to eat, but if you have to be there, it is nice to know that the food is good and the people are friendly. Unlike some hospitals that price gauge when they know know you don't have other options, the prices here are really reasonable, too.
Don't worry, the food won't put you to sleep like Caden! The bacon and hashbrowns in the morning, the homemade mac anc cheese for lunch.
A really nice place
by Rich62 about Tussey's Casual Grill
Its a very nice place for a casual meal. One evening they had a three-piece musical group playing blues music. What was especially nice was that they kept the voume down so that you could enjoy the music but also enjoy conversation with your friends.
Here are sample prices from their menu in September 2009:
NAPA Chicken Sandwich (grilled breast served on a toasted wheat bun with pico de gallo and queso blanco.....$7.29
Bourbon-glazed pork chops $12.99
Honey-grilled salmon......$15.99
Mediterranean Pasta.....$12.99
Chocolate Torte.....$3.99
Sodas...$1.75, coffee....$1.95 I remember they have a good Sesame Blu Cheese Chicken Salad for $8.99, but really everything seems to be good.
a tip: If you order hot tea, ask to see their flavored tea choices.
sTHE HENRY DOORLY ZOO & AQUARIUM
by Rich62
THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY-RATED ZOOS IN AMERICA. It is well worth a visit. Our favorite parts are the Lied Jungle and the aquarium. The Lied Jungle is the largest indoor rain forest in the world. Walk along two levels of trails and see the animals in a natural setting. You can dine in the cafeteria that overlooks the jungle (no, its not expensive).
The zoo is open daily from 9:30 am to 5 pm. Admission is $10.25 for adults, $8.75 for seniors, $6.50 for ages 5 - 11, and free for 4 and under.
Shining City on the Plains
by Toughluck
"Amenities without the crowds"
Omaha is a major American city with all the amenities that a great city has. There is live theater, an orchestra, a major university, cultural choices, multi-ethnic communities, older settled communities and newly built sprawl. It has a link with Girls and Boys Town, just on it's western edge and reflect western ideas with eastern know how. In many ways, it is where East meets West and it works.
