Travel Tips for Omaha

Omaha and Kolache desserts

by denver1982

Omaha has a very large eastern european population because of the czechs and poles going there too meat pack in late 1800's and early 1900's.

They make a lot of Kolache desserts in Omaha, these are basically like creme-filled danishes, they are delicious and very high on fat....

Oh, having what is rumored too be the 3rd largest danish population in the nation, Omaha also makes alot of danish and german pastrys all over town

Hey, the town even 100 years after all the immigration still fills like a blue-collar, drab and smelly ethnic town

Wonderful Chinese

by Toughluck about The Panda

Located downtown on 16th & Leavenworth, the Panda is a quiet place in the evening. Much busier during the lunch hour. The food is good, the helping substantial and it's a warm and friendly place if you're downtown after 6. It gets real quiet and in January the darkness encourages one to find a friendly, warm, and well lit place. I make it a habit when I'm in town and have an evening open and on my own. Great place to go with friends. All are good.

GREAT FOR YOUNG KIDS

by Rich62 about THE AMAZING PIZZA MACHINE

Food-wise, it's ok, not bad, not great. You go there for the entertainment for your young children, and while there you eat pizza etc. from a buffet. nothing strikes me as being great.

CLICK THE PHOTO to go inside and get an idea of the fun that the kiddos have here.

SEE THE COLLEGE WORLD SERIES

by Rich62

In late June the eight best college baseball teams in America square off in a double elimination tournament at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha. It a festive atmosphere and lots of fun whether or not you are a big baseball fan.

Omaha!

"Omaha - Upcoming Midwestern City"

Omaha is a very welcoming city. I have been living in the area since 1995 and have found it to be a fun, lively city. The people are very nice and accepting. It has become very diverse over the past couple years.

Omaha may be known for its music scene, zoo and college world series. However there are many more wonderful things about the town. We have a very high concentration of golf courses and bars. In the past couple years a number of 'big city' night clubs and martini bars have opened up. We have many wonderful, inexpensive restaurants. A wondeful art community, including a community playhouse that is the largest in North America. Our downtown is growing with many condo's being built. We are also building the largest pedestrian bridge to connect Omaha and Iowa. Along the riverfront we are also adding restaurants and retail shopping. Add this to an arena with top ten attendance in the world and the heartland of america park and you have a nice little riverfront. Our riverfront also includes a large fountain, gondola rides, river tours on a nice size party boat and a outdoor concert area. We have an amazing trail system for bikers/runners. With the recent annexation of Elkhorn, Omaha stretches 22.5 miles and has over 425,000 people in the city. Omaha and Lincoln will eventually become one metro area consisting of over 1.2 million people. We have 4 indoor malls and 2 outdoor malls. They pop up every year really. We have a Cabela's, Nebraska Furniture Mart and all the essentail shopping centers and restaurants. We have Starbucks, Cheesecake Factory, Borsheims, D&G, etc. An upscale area of Omaha is called Regency and includes another indoor mall that features Borsheims, Christian Nobel, Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma. We have two indoor waterparks that are currently being built. In 2008 we will host the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA Basketball tournament and already have hosted the Womens' volleyball tournament. We have 2 major transplant centers with is more than any other city even close to our size. We have a wonderful school system that is rated as one of the top school systems in the nation. We have skateparks for the skateboarders and for the most part let them enjoy it. Our city was planned out nicely and therefore it is easy to get around in Omaha. Above all Omaha is a very fun place that has many surprises. It may not be a NYC or L.A., but how many cities are? Omaha knows her place in this world and makes the best of it. She may be a little shy at first, but if youre willing to take the time and get to know her, you will fall in love.
