Omaha either great or horrible no in between

if youre on a greyhound lay-over I would go down to the old market(1000-1300 block of jackson) they have some interesting places to eat, the greyhound station is at 1601 jackson which is the(500 block south) and at 16th and farnam(350 block south) there is a small grocrey store and at 16th and douglas(200 block south) there is a wal-greens and just 6 or 7 blocks south jackson on 13th there is a good czech resturant(bohemian cafe) thats excellent and cheap.
Id like too add a few things about Omaha:
-Omaha is a very good city for people who ride bikes, has trails from one end of the city too the other
-Omaha has a great, great cheap and affordable education system (state universities cost around 1000 dollars a year, and junior colles are around 500 dollars a year full-time) also in the newspaper I read Omaha has the best K-12 education system in the country (much better than denver public education that I went too)
-Omaha is the inbound telemarketing, collections and life insurance capital of north america so it has a very, very, very low unemploment rate and wages are higher than in much larger cities, just look at the omaha world herald
-cost of living: TWO bedroom goes for less than 50,000 dollars in a decent area
bad aspects:
-Filthy, smelly, unsanitary and unsafe southside of Omaha
Lo Sole Mio

They don't take resevations, and aren't open on Sundays, so get there early and prepare for a wait in the bar. Pasta E Pollo in the white sauce.
The roasted garlic side is the best, you can use it like butter
Soup and Sandwich!
by rsleisk about Panera Bread
Panera Bread was a favorite spot for us when I was staying in Omaha. I guess this is a chain restaurant but not where I'm from. They have great sandwiches and soup.
The place is a bakery also, so there are bread samples and you've got to try their chocolate-chip cookies, they rock! Tuscan Chicken:
All-natural pepper-mustard chicken with fragrant pesto aioli, field greens, tomatoes and red onions, on our Rosemary & Onion focaccia.
Downtown Old Market District
by eomaha
Some of Omaha's finest dining, unique shopping and entertainment, set in a romantic, cobble stone, brick warehouse district. Horse carriage rides, street corner musicians, and more. A very unique and charming experience (leave the kids behind... although if they must come... treat them to the kite shop, Ted & Wally's ice cream, and rental of a bicycle for 4!).
SEE EARLY 20TH CENTURY MANSIONS

WE RECENTLY ATTENDED A WEDDING IN AN AREA of Omaha that was once the city's elite neighborhood. The particular house featured in these five photos is called the "Renaissance Mansion." About two blocks from it is the "Storrs Mansion," once owned by the founder of Storr's Beer, which is no longer made. Mr Storr built the Renaissance Mansion in 1910 as a wedding present for his daughter. It was nearly bulldozed for a parking lot recently, but has survived to host many activities such as the wedding we attended. Inside are nine fireplaces and three kitchens, two of which are still being used. The wedding ceremony we saw took place in a sunken covered patio area.
Driving around this area you will see many old homes such as this.
