Weather extremes
by kingbk
Winter: Heavy jacket, thick gloves and ear protection. It gets COLD and snowy. Don't believe all that nonsense about the changing of the Omaha climate, we had a major blizzard this year and many snowy, cold days.
Summer: Light, light clothing. It gets hot, humid and sticky. A swimsuit and shorts would be good, as well as sun block and bug replient.
Good Bar-B-Que!
by rsleisk about Famous Dave's
Famous Dave's is a Omaha chain restaurant that offers up good bar-b-que, whether it's pork, beef or sausage. I went to the one downtown and sat outside and ate my meal as i people watched. I also went to the store in Bellevue, which was good as well. I liked their combos but my favorite was their sausage along with their Devil Spit bar-b-que sauce...good stuff!
Lo Solo Mio
by kmifflin about Lo Solo Mio
A fantastic Italian food place that gives you sooo much food you'll have dinner for a few nights! The prices aren't too bad, but you get the same amount at lunch for a cheaper price! MMmmm, I'm getting hungry thinking about it.
Old Market and The Zoo
by shock32638
Old Market Tons of little shops selling a very ecclectic variety of goods. Street musicians, and carrage rides make this a fun place to spend a day or two.
The Zoo is one of the top zoos in the US, and definatly the best one for 500 miles in any direction.
Omaha - Our home away from home
by kimberbakos
"Fun for all"
Most of what we do is specific to my son's OI treatment, but the zoo is fun for everyone. We visited on our last trip to Omaha, and we had a great time. Even Caden enjoyed it and he'd had surgery earlier that week. So be sure to stop at the zoo if you're in Omaha for more than just an overnight visit.
"Black squirrels for nature lovers"
We live in MI where there are many black squirrels, but we've never been able to get a picture of one :( We didn't know how far west black squirrels are and were pleasantly surpised to find one on the grounds of Rainbow House. He made us feel right at home.
"Happy to be here!"
You can see from his smile below that despite the less than fun surgery and hospital stays, that Caden is happy to come to Omaha. So let this picture be a reminder that whereever you go, and whatever you find, that if you look hard enough, there is always a silver lining. In his case, it is the chance to throw a penny in the river in the lobby :)
