More about The Phoenix Inn / The Atomic Inn

Much better than it looks

by TripAdvisor Member AScotsmanAbroad

Was a bit worried when I drove up to it, but the rooms belie the laclustre outward appearance. The room had been recently renovated and had all new furniture, including a DVD player.
Only negative was that I couldn't get a wireless connection in the room, although it is available in the motel.
Ideal place to stay while visiting Death valley and don't be put off by the appearance.

Very nice + character

by TripAdvisor Member roughnready68

In terms of amenities, this hotel matches up with the other hotels in town. My room had working air conditioning, free wireless internet, showers, and a bed. But it is the Inn's character that gives it the edge over the other hotel's in Beatty. In the motel's lobby, you will find an assortment of sci-fi DVDs on display along with various pieces of UFO paraphenalia. The staff was very polite and fun to talk too -- especially after a long day in Death Valley, which is only about 20-30 minutes away.

Best place to stay close to Death Valley at a good price

by TripAdvisor Member GermanTraveller2009

Just little more than an hour from Furnace Creek Visitor Center is this very friendly place. Nice and helpful staff. Phoenix Inn is about to become Atomic Inn so their website is now www.atomic-inn.com. They have renovated the place, the free wireless worked well. Comfortable bed, clean bathroom, small fridge and microwave in the room. The motel is just one block off the main highway so compared to other motels in Beatty there was no traffic to be heard though there are trucks going through all night. Discount with Death Valley Park Pass. Definitely looked like the best you can get for a reasonable price there!

We came up through Rhyolite Ghost Town in the evening and took the Titus Canyon Road down to Death Valley next morning, Beatty is a perfect starting point for that as it is a one-way drive downwards.

Great rooms behind a motel veneer

by TripAdvisor Member cartist

The Phoenix Inn (aka Atomic Inn) has comfortable rooms that recently have been redone completely. High-tech door key-cards and flat-screen TVs are definite oddities in this gateway to Death Valley. We stayed one night at $51.00 - great value. We should have stayed two nights and "done" Death Valley from here. About a five-minute walk away is a family run restaurant that was great.

very nice stay in a there's-nothing-city

by TripAdvisor Member Mellyscookies

We stayed there for 2 nights. il was perfect. right at the end of the Death Valley Nevada exit. the room was clean, and conditioning system worked perfectly. and also the tv and the small fridge (in the closet.. :). Just one problem. we couldn't use our credit card (the connection was broken) but now I think that the problem has been fixed.

A surprise treat

by TripAdvisor Member KAMEN88

Given the low price, modest appearance of the Phoenix Inn, and the lack of competition in Beatty, we had low expectations. These were misguided however, as this motel turned out to be a comfortable, convenient bargain.
We arrived in the evening and despite our fears, we were immediately welcomed and shown to our room, which was new and spotlessly clean - basic but with everything you need.
Read on if you are staying in Beatty (which you should) -
We then made our way to the Sourdough Saloon, which is just down the road. We weren't sure what to expect in this one-horse town but as we walked in, drinkers at the bar smiled and acknowledged us. We got chatting to some locals and the owner even bought us a drink - we ended up staying all night. It was one of the most fun and friendly bars we've been to in the states (and the beer / food is cheap.)
The next morning we had breakfast at the local Mexican diner (very cheap and delicious) and were on our way.

What a total bargain

by TripAdvisor Member EssexPaul

This looks very plain from the front - a typical motel. But the rooms have just been refurbed and are very good. The beds are solid (we had a king), the carpet is nice and the whole place is really clean. And all for $57.

We're usually boutique hotel denizens but when you're in the Nevada desert you don't really have much luxury slopping around. This place was a welcome surprise, although it's in no way luxurious. Get in before the prices shoot up.

Try the Sourdough Saloon too at the top of the road - we had the best steak of our trip in there.

great disappointment

by TripAdvisor Member Bigsmurf

When arriving at the phoenix inn the place made a deserted impression. After waiting several minutes the person cheching us in came from somwhere out of the back. He wasn't very cheerfull or polite. The sight of hime made my kids rushing back to the car.

Having rooms next to eachother or at least somewhat near, was impossible (although a major part was still empty) the only alternative was a room where pets were allowed with a filthy rug (their own words).

Rooms where oudated and not clean at all. The fotos on the website look much better compared to reallity.

We finnaly decided to take our loss (we booked in advance) and get a other room in Beatty.

Correct for the price

by TripAdvisor Member crsm123

I guess the guy on reception is a little taciturn but friendly enough nontheless.
It looks as though all the rooms are slowly being refurbished. Ours was clean and had all the facilities you would expect except for a telephone.
At the price being charged this is a good place to stay overnight and is convenient for Death Valley.
