Travel Tips for Carson City

The 'Blue Line Trail'

by Geoff_Wright

Visiting these historic houses has to be one of the 'single' most important activities. The house here is 'Springmeyer', built in 1908. These houses are all occupied, mostly as domestic residences, rather than 'museums', or commercial ventures.

When I was waiting in the Tourism Office, I did overhear Helene telling the other visitor about one elderly lady, who "might invite you in", but I don't know which house it was. So just go and ask Helene!

Celebratory Beers with Bob and Duey

by zrim

After the hole in one, we had to at least celebrate the feat with a beer at the golf course. So we flagged down the cart girl and bought a few beers to toast my good fortune.

According to Golf Digest the odds of getting a hole in one in any given round is 5,000 to 1. Difficult, but not impossible. I estimate that I probably played about 1000 rounds before recording my first hole in one.

Local Casinos

by jasperdo

The casinos in Carson City are vastly different from the mega resorts you find on the Las Vegas Strip. They are smaller, more "Mom and Pop" type places. All of them cater more to the locals than to tourists. Although there's no need to worry...they'll take your money just as easily as a Carsonite's.

Downtown, the 2 main casinos are the Carson Nugget and Cactus Jacks. The Nugget is the larger of the two. Both places have been around for many years, and it shows. They could use a remodelling, but aside from that, they are nice, hometown casinos.

East on Highway 50 you'll find the Pinyon Plaza Casino. It's more splashy then the Nugget, and is one of the few Carson City casinos to have a hotel.

At the South end of town, on Highway 395, is the newest Casino in Carson City, the Casino Fandango. It's the closest thing Carson City has to a glitzy casino, if you can call miles on Neon glitzy. It's located in a former lumber and hardware store, but has done a nice job of remodelling, and is a good choice if you want to go to a nice casino.

State Governent Seat

by DSwede

Obviously growing up nearby, I found myself in Carson City many times. But most times were for school, sports or shopping.

Feel free to visit my Nevada page for my thoughts on my homestate.

Carson City

by irene123

Carson City, the capitol of Nevada was founded in 1858 by pioneer Abraham Curry and takes its name from the nearby Carson River, which early explorer John Fremont named after his scout, the famed "Kit" Carson. With the discovery of the Comstock silver lode in nearby Virginia City in 1859, Carson City became a thriving commercial and industrial center. The Virginia & Truckee, richest of America’s short-line railroads, was established to transport the rich ore from the mines to Carson City, where a U.S. Mint was built to process the ore. Following organization of the Nevada Territory in 1861, Carson City was designated the territorial capital and the county seat. In 1864 President Lincoln granted statehood to Nevada and Carson City was selected as the state capital and quickly became the seat of local, state and territorial government.
