Called Lady of the Lake," was built originally by wealthy San Francisco businessman Robert P. Sherman in 1926 as a guesthouse for friends and clients. It was modeled after the log cabin in the Broadway play "LIGHTNIN," with Will Rogers. The Cal Neva Resort and Casino soon became a favorite of celebrities and socialites. Unfortunately it burned down on May 17, 1937, but was rebuilt in just over thirty days by Norman Biltz and Adler Larson, both Tahoe pioneers.
The Cal Neva Resort. Spa & Casino has seen many revamps and has had many owners such as "Pretty Boy," "Bones," and "Baby Face" during the 1940's and 1950's. Frank Sinatra was probably the most notable of its many owners from 1960 to 1963. Sinatra added the famous Celebrity Showroom and entertained celebrities from around the world. Such celebrities as Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Juliet Prowse, and Marilyn Monroe sang in the Celebrity Showroom and the Indian Room.
What makes this resort so special among all the others is, the Lady of the Lake is built right on the California and Nevada state line. If you venture into the Indian Room wonder over to the fireplace you will see the line that divides the room from the California and Nevada side. Take some time and wonder around the room and checkout all the historic photographs.
Unique Quality: We have not stayed here, but wondered around to see that it has that old time charm of what the old typical gambling casino. Yet, if you step outside by the pool, you'll have some fabulous views of the bay.

Hard to believe...
We tried to Priceline this hotel with bids staring at $70 on up to $110 with no success. WE wanted to stay at this hotel for a wedding that was being held there which we were attending. Rack rate for a partial lake view room was $129 plus tax. The best we could do was $119 plus tax. This hotel is in dire need of a renovation. It is a shame as it could really shine, especially given its historic significance. It just doesnt justify the high rates they are charging in its present condition. On the plus side, the staff was friendly and helpful and rooms were clean. It just needs a facelift.
Unique Quality: Old and worn.

Crystal Bay
by Yaqui
This area owes its simply beginnings to the logging industry that boomed along with the mining due to the Comstock Lode in Virginia City around the 1800’s. The Sierra Nevada Wood and Lumber Company were operated in this area. Incline Village gotten its name from the incline railway, this is where the wood was taken up 1,400 feet and then dropped by a gravity flume down the eastern side of the mountains.
"Cal Neva"
Crystal Bay gained its famed from the lively Casinos and the individuals who either owned, managed, or visited this area such as Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Jack Kennedy and Sam Giancana (the mobster whose presence brought Sinatra's casino adventures to an end) played here in the '60s. You can actually swim from one state to the other in the Cal-Neva Resort's swimming pool.

South Lake Tahoe Cool lodgings for a Family Reunion?
by DJStarr
Hey friends, My family is considering a family reunion in South Lake Tahoe area next summer. Any good ideas about a great lodge/cabins/place to stay. Diverse group - some may want a kick-back cabin, some a lodge setting. The So. Lake Tahoe area, near Reno will accomodate the city-bred relatives; lakeside quiet and decks over the water with views should accomodate those country dwellers. Any great ideas? No kids, so don't need PG Noise. Thanks! DJ Starr
P.S. Any other location ideas would be great, too. We're from all over, from Florida to South Dakota to Illinois to Arizona.

There are a number of cabin rental sites out there if you do a search.
Do you need to be in South Lake Tahoe ? The Cal-Neva lodge is very nice with a casino and overlooks the lake, but that's north Tahoe.
Good luck with wherever you decide. Tahoe is a fantastic place to visit and an excellent choice for a reunion.

DJ,
Lake Tahoe is an excellent choice! Check out these two well-established, "old-time" accomodations which have lots of activities around them: http://www.tahoedixie2.com/ZCR/index.html http://www.camprichardson.com/
Tahoe is beautiful with plenty of activities during the summertime. From the hiking/biking/horse-riding/lake activities to the casino/dinner shows/night life, everyone should have a good time. The only consideration would be that it's at a high elevation, so older or not-so-healthy family members will want to take it easy for the first few days due to the thinner air.
